Surface pro 3 windows upgrade

Hi,

I have a Surface pro 3.

It is still Windows 8, is it possible to upgrade to Windows 10 for free?

Google tells me something called Fedora is free and will install on this if Windows 10 can't be installed for free. I only relly use this to browse the internet and occasionally play some card games. I'm not interested in buying a new device or spending money on this one as it still works, but I would like it to be up to date.

    All you need to do to upgrade is to download the Windows Media Creation Tool located at the web link below.

    You will see the "Download the Tool" button in the upper section of the web page.  When the Tool runs, just use the default option to upgrade now.  You will get the latest version of Windows 10 at that point.

    It does take a while to perform the upgrade and will appear that it is doing nothing.  Leave the machine alone.  Do not touch it until it is done.

    According to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12435/windows-10-upgrade-faq it is no longer a free upgrade.

    No, still free at this point.

    As for Fedora - no drivers.  You will get a display with no keyboard/cover support, no USB, no touchscreen, and no WiFi.  You will have a digital paperweight!!!!!

    The only version of Linux that has Microsoft incorporated drivers is Ubuntu.

    I have tested most Linux distributions on my Pro 3 and Ubuntu is the only one that really works - but, the battery only lasts 3.5 hours, multitasking is sluggish, and you will hear the fan quite often.  But, it does work.  Even the pen is supported.
