Eye Strain from Surface Laptop Studio

I got my surface studio last week and since then have found I have been getting eye strain from 5 - 15 minutes of usage. Though this doesn't happen when in tablet mode and I'm drawing for some reason, I'm not sure why I get it while I'm in laptop mode.

I've tried setting the refresh rate to 60hz and Colour range to sRGB, but it still persists

If anyone has any solutions that would be great

Thanks - Lucky

Hi Marrion_Y I also suffered from this and realised that the screen on the surface pro 8 uses PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) i Spoke to a eye doctor about this the other day and apparently more and more people are coming to him complaining about eye strain and migraines from some of your products and alot of Samsung mobile phones as they also use PWM to save battery power. I really loved the Surface pro 8 for the time that i had it but the PWM killed it for me . You really should talk to your superiors about this because what was reported was %15 of people suffer from PWM sensitivity or the flickering of the back lights in the monitor but in actual fact after talking to my dr he said the number has gone up to about 35% and thats a huge chunk of the market that you are excluding from buying your products. There has to be some other way you could save battery power in the surface screens or maybe make them a bit fatter with a bigger battery. As it is the surface pro 8 should have discreet graphics like a 3050ti as most people buying these surfaces want to do video editing and without discreet graphics the surface pro 8 struggles. I really love your surface pro 8 and surface studio but in australia they are massively overpriced and im guessing thats why JB hifi and other stores where i am are constantly dropping the price on them cause they are struggling to sell them. Please if you could price them a bit lower to compete with the current market and get rid of that terrible PWM in your screens then you open yourself up to a bigger market and ultimately make more sales. Thankyou.

Hello! Sorry for the late reply.

This happened when plugged in and I actually also disabled adaptive brightness too with it being little help.

I should mention I have opted to return the laptop for right now as this has been affecting my usage no matter what I try doing.

    Thanks for your help though!

    Hi luckyminer98,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. Apologies for the inconvenience this has caused you.

Does this happen also when you are using the device while plugged in?

This may be due to the adaptive brightness and contrast feature of the Surface where it adjusts the screen brightness and contrast based on the content displayed. For example, if you open something that's mostly black, then you switch to something that's mostly white, the brightness and contrast may adapt. Kindly try disabling this feature by following the steps given on this page: Adaptive brightness and contrast on Surface devices (microsoft.com).

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Marrion

    Hi luckyminer98,

Thank you for the response and I'm sorry to hear that turning off the adaptive brightness did not do much help also to he eye strain you experience. We apologize for this experience you had with the Surface. Definitely, this is not the experience we want you to have.

Thank you also for spending time to share your experience here in the Community.

    Kind regards,

    Marrion
