Thunderbolt 4 Dock stop working after Windows 11 Update

After a windows 11 update on March 2nd 2025 the Thunderbolt 4 Dock 4 stopped working properly. All the port including USB and Network disconnect and reconnect every 6 seconds or so. I tried to roll back the update, but that didn't work. I then decided to install the following files:

  • SurfaceThunderbolt4DockDrivers_Win11_x64_22000_23.033.35236.0.msi
  • SurfaceDock_WmiInstanceProvider_Win10_Win11_19041_23.021.21048.0_x64

After the first attempt the USB ports started working as intended. However, the network port didn't installed properly.

Then, the surface app indicated that there was an update available. Unfortunately, once installed the ports became intermittent again.

Thanks in advance for any help

None of this worked, updated today, usb direct things like monitors and mice work, but via a hub thunderbolt 3 or 4 (tried both) it's all dead. And since I cannot plug in a monitor and mouse direct and still have power.....this is kind of critical. Has anyone found a solution?

Incredibly stupid for these kinds of updates not to be fully tested before rollout.

My computer just updated to 2025-04 Windows 11 Version 24H2 ... and that solved the problem.

I am having exactly the same problem. After the Windows software update, the network connection via the Thunderbolt 4 cycles on and off every six seconds.

    Hello, Francisco Rodriguez.

    Welcome to Microsoft Community!

Thank you for your description of the problem.

From all of this, it appears that this issue will be inextricably linked to the update.

I note that you have installed the correct drivers for your device:

Download Surface Laptop Studio 2 Drivers and Firmware from Official Microsoft Download Center

Download Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock Firmware and Drivers from Official Microsoft Download Center

We were able to confirm that the problem is not driver or hardware related.

For hardware compatibility issues brought on by the update, I would actually recommend contacting the Surface Technical Support team. They can provide a more authoritative and detailed explanation of the impact of the update.

The community will also log your incident and provide feedback about the update to the developer team.

You can refer to the following steps to create a session:

Open the Surface App and follow the procedure below:

    1. Click "Help and Support" and then click "Get Help".
    2. Briefly describe your problem in the text box, such as "Thunderbolt 4 stops working after Surface update", and then press Enter.
    3. Click "Contact Support" at the bottom.
    4. Select "Surface Laptop" and click "Confirm".
    5. You will see "Chat support" and "Phone support" options, please contact them during working hours, you will get one-to-one support services.

They can also share some advice with you.

    I hope you stay safe.

    Best Regards.
