Can someone please tell me the difference between an M1866 and a 1866

    Ah, that would make sense. Dropping the ‘m’ I was just wondering what the difference was because there doesn’t seem to be a difference in spec.

    Type

    system info

    in the search field and run the System Information App

    this will give you the System SKU

    If you run the Surface App (it is in the Store if not on your Surface already) it will show you the Surface Model.

    They MAY have dropped the "M" because it isn't used in the internals of the Surface (UEFI/BIOS). It may just stand for (M)odel.

    So, on the back of the previous surface pro 7 under the flip stand there is the microsoft brand. underneath that is the serial number. To the left of that it said m1866 and then 128gb

    This one gives all of that information but it says 1866 instead of m1866

    Where are you seeing these M1866 or 1866 numbers? Microsoft's numbering for Surface SKU's is confusing. Surface System SKU reference - Surface | Microsoft Docs has supposedly official information.

    They used 1796 in the SKU strings for the Surface Pro 2017 (5th generation) and the Surface Pro 6. And confused customers by doing so.
