Surface Pro 3 - Screen goes black, unable to power back on

I have a recent issue with my Surface Pro 3 where the screen goes black and I am unable to power back on the computer. Battery is at 100% and plugged in. The only way I have been able to resolve this issue is by taping the power button down for a long time (overnight) and then when I take off the tape it restarts. I've had this happen twice now.

I found the fix here:

What I want to know is how to fix this from happening? Because the battery is at 100%, I don't believe this is an issue with the power supply... has anyone else had this issue and what was the cause & fix?

Thanks

    Hi Slinger,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community.

The device may be in a hung state. Pressing the Power button for a longer time forces the device to shutdown completely and restart. Performing this is like removing the battery from a laptop or unplugging a desktop PC. It resets the hardware and clears all the cache and memory for the hardware. To avoid the issue to happen again, please make sure the device is up to date and no corrupted software on it by running these steps below:

1: Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit and check Windows Update

    2: Update drivers and firmware

Check what is the current OS Build of your Windows version by going to Settings > System > About

Go to Download driver and firmware for Surface, choose Surface Pro 3 then click Download on the next page.

Choose the .msi file that matches your current OS Build and click Next.

After downloading, run and install the .msi then Restart.

3: RunSystem File Checker Tool in Windows 10

    Hope this helps.

I tried the suggestion! It worked!!!!!! Thank you! I turned my surface pro 3 off and on at the switch several times and held the volume and power key down. It was blinking, so I taped the power key down, had to do a few times and then pushed button 3 hours later and it turned on! I will be able to back up. Cheers!!!!! I suggest others keep trying....as I nearly gave up.  Been trying all day. Switching on And off and the Tape works and holding volume And power key down  . Thanks to guy with suggestions  on Forum!

    Good day Marrion_Y

Thanks very much for the reply. I did run through all of your recommendations however the Surface already had the lastest firmware & updates. No issues were found through either the diagnostic toolkit or System file checker.

The strange this about this issue is that a hard reset does not work. First I tried the hard reset, then I taped down the power button for 20 mins (still nothing) and then I left it taped down for a few hours which once I let the power button release it finally rebooted.

I can't seem to find the cause online or how to prevent this from happening again. Only the fix.

Any additional input would be appreciated.

    Thanks
