My Son's Surface Pro 8 has been dropped and now has cracked screen and is slightly bent.

I'm hoping someone can help me as I'm so confused and can't contact anyone in person from Microsoft to help me. We bought the Surface Pro 8 i5 last year and purchased an extra care repair warranty from JB-Hi which I thought covered accidental drop. Which I've now found out it doesn't.

Therefore I'm trying to see how much it will cost to get it repaired or replaced with a refurbished one from Microsoft but I don't understand the process as I would like to know the cost before I send it away.

As if it's too expensive I'll cut my losses and buy a cheaper device so that he doesn't waste time etc.

Hopefully someone can help me as I'm so dissapointed thinking I had bought the correct warranty for accidents.

Kind regards

Kelcam

    Hello Kelcam,

Thank you for posting in Microsot Community.

I am aware about the damage to your son's Surface Pro 8. Unfortunately, accidental damage is not covered under the standard warranty or the Microsoft Complete for Surface warranty. However, you may still be able to get it repaired through Microsoft's out-of-warranty service.

To get an estimate for the repair cost, I recommend visiting this page How much does out-of-warranty service cost for your Surface device or accessory? - United States - Microsoft Support. The cost will depend on the specific repair needed and your location. Keep in mind that out-of-warranty offers can vary by product and country.

To proceed with the repair, you may follow the instructions from this article Get service for your out of warranty or damaged Surface - Microsoft Support on how to process an online repair.

    I hope this information helps!

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia

    Hi Lavenia,

Thank you so much for such a fast reply and your advice as I really appreciate you taking the time to help me.

I completely understand it unfortunately isn't covered as was an accident and I have looked at all the website pages but I'm still confused as my scenario isn't really outlined.

I think the screen is completely broken and I don't think it will be able to be fixed therefore I have a feeling I would be offered a refurbished device as the solution but I would like to know how much that would be first as it might cost me less to get a refurbished one myself if I can find good deals (as still have the keyboard and case in good condition to save time and postage or a just buy a cheap (different brand device) just to get him back on a computer for school so that he doesn't miss too much time as the teacher do most of the lessons using it etc. I'm really hoping Microsoft can help me though as it would be much better to go through them if possible.

Is there a way I can call someone and explain my problem to them over the phone as I'm still very confused about what I should do especially that it's not covered and just really need to know a quote before I send it away.

Fingers crossed you or someone else might be able to point me in the right direction. I also know the only walk in shops are in Sydney I think and I'm in Perth so unfortunately I can't take it in personally.

Thank you so much once again in advance for your time and helpfulness.

    Kind regards

    Kelcam
