Thank you so much for reaching out, I am Udit an independent advisor, and I am glad to assist you today with this issue.
I understand you're trying to install FortiClient VPN on your new Surface Pro 11, which runs on ARM64 architecture. This issue is fairly common with devices running Windows on ARM, but it can usually be resolved with a few careful steps.
- Uninstall any incomplete FortiClient installations If the installation was interrupted or failed, it's important to remove any partial installs first. Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps Find FortiClient and choose Uninstall Restart your device afterward
- Download the correct FortiClient version for ARM64 Not all FortiClient versions support Windows on ARM. You need to download the ARM64-compatible installer directly from Fortinet's support portal: Visit [support.fortinet.com] Log in or register for an account if required Search for FortiClient VPN (ARM64) under the VPN-only section Make sure you download the version that explicitly mentions ARM64 (not x64 or x86)
- Run the installer as Administrator Right-click the installer file and choose Run as administrator This helps prevent permission-related installation issues
- Check for Windows updates Make sure your Surface Pro 11 is fully up to date: Go to Settings > Windows Update Install all pending updates, especially those related to drivers or ARM compatibility Restart the device once updates are installed
- Temporarily disable Windows Defender (if needed) Sometimes Windows Defender or another antivirus might block the installation. If the problem persists: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Windows Security > Virus & Threat Protection Click Manage settings and temporarily turn off Real-time protection Re-enable it once the installation is complete
- Install the FortiClient VPN After preparing your system as above, try installing the FortiClient VPN again using the ARM64 installer
Let me know if you need help with any of the steps above.
Best regards,
Udit
