The # pad stopped working including the keys above the # pad, so basically all the keys right of PgUp & PgDn & the arrow keys do not work. All the rest of the keys are working OK .

    Hello,

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

Here's the troubleshooting for your MS Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000:

    1. Check NumLock:
Press NumLock (test if light activates).
Try pressing NumLock + Fn or NumLock + Shift (some models require combos).
    2. Connection Check:
→ Unplug/replug USB cable firmly at both ends (keyboard & PC).
→ Try a different USB port.
→ Test on another PC if possible.
    3. Debris Inspection:
Turn keyboard upside down & gently tap near numpad.
Use compressed air to clean around affected keys.

    Software Steps:

    1. Driver Reset:
      • Go to Device Manager → Keyboards → Right-click your keyboard
      • Select Uninstall device → Check "Attempt to remove driver" → Uninstall
      • Restart PC → Windows will reinstall drivers automatically.
    2. Keyboard Test:
      Open notepad and press:
      • Ctrl + Alt + Del (if works → partial functionality)
      • Alt + 64 on numpad (should type @ if working)

    Hardware Check:

    1. Cable Damage:
Inspect the entire USB cable for kinks, bites, or fraying (common failure point).
    2. Circuit Test:
If available, try a USB-to-PS/2 adapter (bypasses USB controller issues).

    If all steps fail:
→ Likely physical damage in the numpad circuit.
→ Consider replacement (this model is discontinued).
Contact Microsoft Support for legacy hardware advice.

Note: Isolated numpad failure often indicates internal ribbon cable disconnect or circuit damage—especially in aged keyboards.

    Best regards,
