Sound issues with on screen keyboard typing sound

Please Microsoft, read this and help me,

When typing on-screen, only the first letter of a series of letters or words makes the typing sound.

When pressing backspace for a while, the first one doesnt make a sound but the following letters deleted will make the sound.

A work around that I found was to open the settings, system, sound tab of the settings menu. That made that every letter when typing makes the propper typing sound.

This let me to believe there is a problem with the soundcard. Doing all tests and doing a lot of research work including even installing windows 10 drivers, didnt solve the problem.

Finally I brought the tablet back to the retail store, explaining the problem in detail

They sent it to their repair center in Brussels Belgium, they couldnt do anything about it, so they sent it to Poland, where a technician resetted the device, did a analytic test and found that everything was fine. After one month, I got the SP9 back and of course, when initialising from factory default, same problem.

On top of the sound problem, I have from time to time after a reboot, that the SP9 says that the battery is not an original Microsoft battery, and as a third thing, sometimes the Network Card just disappears overnight, and only a hard reboot can solve the problem.

For me it is very clear that the device is a bad one, because also the perfomance is not really better. Comming from a SP6 i7, i can almost feel no difference and sometimes even worse perfomances.

I did everything possible in all threads that I found related to "cracking sound card" on the SP9 which is something my SP9 is also doing when playing music from spotify but nothing could solve or help.

here a video I have made of the soundcard problem. The language is in Dutch, my language...

So please Microsoft, read this and help me !!

If it helps you. Likely EVERY pro9 on the market has this issue. Since most people are annoyed by the typing sound of the screen-keyboard, there are only a few people like you and me that care about this bug -> no one fixes it by default.

I replaced my pro9 3-times through amazon costumers support. (around july 23). Every new device had the same bug.

I am annoyed as you. Microsoft Support does care a shi*.

At least i can tell you, dont replace the pro9, save your time. A replacement will not fix this problem +

listen to Charles tip. However it does not fix it for long and not always.

I fixed the problem by turning off "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device".. This can be found at:

Settings => System => Sound => More Sound Settings => Select Speakers => Properties => Advanced.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello Charles,

Thanks a lot for your reply, so I'm not the only one!

Already tried the workaround you pointed me at, but works (and not always) until the keyboard is on top. When you perform any other task and the keyboard goes background, when it opens again, the click sound wanish.

I suppose is keyboard related software glitch, will try to find and replace the .exe (tabtip.exe) that masters the onscreen keyboard (maybe the file I found is not the correct one but trying to will not kill my surface I hope)

    M.

    Hi, thanks for your answer.

The Configuration is an intel i7 16 GB RAM 256 GB SSD

It is running on the delivered Windows OS which is Windows 11 Home. The problem is there on factory default fresh install, as well as doing all the updatess, even going to the Preview update does not fix the sound problem.

The Network adaptor shows an exlamation mark when it happens. (only happenes twice overnight when transferring a lot of data to my NAS). Removing the adaptor in the device Manager and reinstalling it, does not help. I tried many things. When I was out of own solutions, I found online that the force shutdown was the only thing that could help and indeed it did.

The battery problem does appear from time to time. I try to ignore it when it pops up...

Many times I have run the Diagnostic Toolkit and always it says everything is working fine. Also the microsoft people that have sent it back after the so called repair say its working fine because of the results they are having with the diagnostic Toolkit.

Hoping this helps in your assessment. I used to be a software test engineer. So I really tried everything in my power... I wasted already so much time on this ...

    Kind regards

    Hi BirgerNaert,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. Thank you also for the video shared for us to see and hear the exact issue on with the sound feedback in using the touch keyboard. Apologies for the inconvenience this has caused you especially having without the device for a month yet still getting issues after it was sent for service.

We would like to ask for a few more details on this first for us to further isolate and provide appropriate steps to take:

    • May I know which Surface Pro 9 configuration do you have? Intel or 5G?
    • What Windows version, edition and OS build is the device running on? To check, go to Windows Settings > System > About and see under Windows Specifications.
    • Regarding with the network card issue, instead of doing a force shutdown whenever the issue occurs, please try going to Device Manager, expand Network adapter and see if the network adapter of the device is getting an error. Share to us here the error that it is getting. Try also if disabling and enabling the adapter fixes the issue instead of a force shutdown.
    • On the battery error, does the error disappears if you exit the prompt or restart the device or it would still continue to appear while you are using the device?

For now, kindly try first running the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit on the device then check for updates in Windows Settings > Windows Updates to make sure that all updates are installed including Optional updates then see if these issues persists. See: Fix common Surface problems using the Surface app and Surface Diagnostic Toolkit - Microsoft Support

Let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,
    Marrion
