Microsoft Surface won’t charge

My surface died a couple months ago and wouldn’t charge. It just had the battery symbol on a black screen. My friend has the same surface so I tried her power cord and the Surface immediately came on and charged. So I ordered a new charger and it’s been working fine, but now the Surface is doing the same thing. Battery symbol on black screen and it won’t charge. It won’t come on for me to look at drivers or updates or anything like that. Help?? I know it’s a surface pro but not sure of the model. It was given to me.

    Hello Katie,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble charging your Surface. Based on the information you've provided; it seems like the issue might be with the charging port or the battery itself. I am here to help and let us both isolate this problem.

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Perform a hard reset: Press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds, then release it and wait for 10 seconds. Press the power button again to turn on your Surface.
    2. Check the charging port: Make sure that the charging port on your Surface is clean and free of debris.
    3. Check the LED light: The LED light should be on when your power connector is plugged into your Surface. If the LED indicator isn’t lit, you may have a problem with your power supply.
    4. If your Surface device has a USB-C port, you can charge it using that port with a USB Type-C PD charger. For best performance, we recommend using a USB-C PD charger that provides at least the same wattage as the power supply that was designed for your Surface. See Surface power supplies and charging requirements.

It's possible that there may be an issue with the charging port on your Surface.

If you're not sure what Surface device you have, see Find out which Surface model you have - Microsoft Support.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia
