I love my Surface and this is my third one but seem to have problems with the charger and compatibility. Why isn't the Surface charger a more universal option?

Thank you for the details, Cosney.

Does the charger slowly charging your device? How do you notice that it doesn't seem to be model related?

I use a USB2 charger I bought off Amazon. [Our chargers . . . half were "misplaced" by the IT guys. Don't ask.😁 ] I believe its a travel charger listed for various other Notebooks. For less than $35 and it works great. MS isn't evil despite what some may claim. They do make things general cross compatible for emergencies or loss of proprietary accessories.

Hello and thank you for your quick reply. This isn't the first time I've had this problem with the original charger that comes with the Surface and it doesn't seem to be model related. I had the same problem with the 3 and 4. Wondering if it's the keyboard that is affecting connection?

Disclaimer, not a technician but like to guess at times. :)

Actually, if you have a Go, you can use USB-C to charge with the right adapter. Surface Go USB-C Charging: We tested 4 USB-C chargers for comparison (surfacetip.com) has some good information. I'd recommend a charger of at least 30W - Amazon has some dual port 40W chargers - get one that states it delivers 30W on one of the ports - or get a good 60W USB-C charger with Power Delivery like Amazon.com: Nekteck 60W USB C Charger [GaN Tech], PD 3.0 Fast Charger[USB-IF & ETL Certified] with Foldable Plug, Compatible with MacBook Air/Pro, iPad Air/Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, Switch, Galaxy, Pixel and More : Cell Phones & Accessories

Thank you for posting your inquiry here in Microsoft Community, Cosney.

We are sorry to hear about the charger issue on your device. May we confirm the exact issue on the charger?

Most of the Surface devices charger (aside from the older models like Surface RT, Pro 1 & 2) are compatible with Surface devices, they only differ with how fast or slow they charge a device. It is always recommended to use a genuine Microsoft or Microsoft-licensed power supply.

Here are the details about how chargers charge a Surface device:

Kindly visit this page to check the article on Charging your Surface device > then click the Surface power supplies and charging requirements drop-down.

Looking forward to hear from you.
