Surface Pro4 TypeCover keyboard not working, drivers missing

This is my 3rd attempt to get a solution from Microsoft.

Since September my typecover keyboard has not been working at all (keys, trackpad). The driver is missing. It does not work in UEFI.

I asked here https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/surfpro4-surfupdate/surface-pro-4-keyboard-not-working-type-cover/4a4d2cb1-8623-4eee-8b33-e52ea5342abb?messageId=8a60a2a6-5666-4623-95f1-31138504233f

Followed the steps, then microsoft abandoned helping.

So I tried again here https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/surfpro4-surfupdate/type-cover-keyboard-for-surface-not-working-driver/9c50c2c2-de22-4c4e-9fc9-2860f2322ebc?messageId=98cc5a95-5641-48dc-a1c9-c0d350e2da6f

The same thing - this time microsoft ignored what I said I had tried, told me the same things, then gave up.

I have not given up!

PLEASE microsoft, help. But DO NOT tell me to try these things as I have already done and none of them work:

  1. Download and install drivers and firmware
  2. Checking I am updated
  3. Two button restart and checking in UEFI
  4. Draining the battery
  5. Cleaning the heads
  6. System file checker

7. DISM.exe / Online / Cleanup-image / Restorehealth command.

  1. Surface diagnostic toolkit
  2. Trying another typecover keyboard
  3. Creating recovery drive and resetting my surface.

Microsoft: your response so far is utterly unacceptable. I have a device, your software updates stopped it working. Please reply, do not repeat what I have been told before or what I have already tried. Just give me a solution.

Nick

    Hi Nic,

I was at my wit's end with this keyboard situation, now I've given up.  I eventually solved the screen jumping problem with a complete reset, and using it as a tablet for reading kindle books and PDFs - a £1200 eBook reader!!!  FFS...

Putting it down to experience I'll be steering clear of Microsoft devices - it's not the problems so much, it's the lack of good customer service that really counts.  We know that they are just typing crappy solutions over-and-over again that we can't use to any effect. My surface pro 4 keyboard packed up 6 months out of warranty.  I'm just not willing to pay more money to Microsoft for a problem I didn't create. I've told everyone I know about my Surface Pro problems and lack of impetus to adequately fix the issue - word of mouth counts for a lot.

When I read your post, it is like I am readying my own word, I am also regretting buying Surface for few years, the worst purchase of my entire life. The surface is garbage, terribly engineered and full of problems, from CPU thermal throttling, Bluetooth connection, WiFi module, to a simple cover connection,  terrible product.

    Hi John,

I am having same issue and have followed all steps included above and still the cover is not working.

I have even purchased a new cover to try and fix the problem that also is not working wasted my money.

Do you have any other suggestions

    Dinesh

    Hi NickHopwood,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your inquiry.  We appreciate the detailed information you have provided.

While the looking at the steps that you've performed and the issue that you're experiencing on your Surface Pro 4, this could be a potential device hardware issue. Have you tried to refresh the Type Cover port option on the UEFI settings?  (shutdown the device > press the volume up and the power button for 15 seconds) > go to Devices > Disable "Type cover port" option > Exit and restart > go back to the UEFI settings >devices > then enable the "Type cover" port option.

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    John Neil_J
