Blue-tooth headset makes loud static noise ever so often on Zoom calls

Hi

I have a Surface Pro (5th Gen) and completely up to date on my Windows Updates including firmware and blue-tooth drivers. I have tried 2 different blue-tooth headsets, AirPod Pro and Beats. They both make a loud static noise after about 15/20 mins into a Zoom call. Once the noise starts, it will keep making the same static noise every few minutes or so which is very annoying when you are on long calls which is quite common these days. Disconnecting and reconnecting the headset seems to give you a reprieve for another 15 minutes or so but does not always resolve the issue.

Looks like this problem has been there for a while. Is there any blue-tooth driver update to resolve this issue once in for all.

Thanks

Venky

    Hi

It took me a while to follow all your suggestions as I made one change at a time and tested on a Zoom call before making the next change. I have completed all of the steps you suggested. Unfortunately the problem still persists.

After some significant research and trying out various options I think I have a fairly good idea of the problem. Looks like the Surface Bluetooth adapter does not recognize that the AirPods has a mic when operating as Headphones in stereo mode. The AirPods mic works fine on the Headset Handsfree free mode but when it is does that, there is a degradation in sound quality and static sounds start after about 30-40 minutes into the call.

Is there anything we can do for the Surface Bluetooth adapter to recognize that the AirPod headphones has a mic or should I purchase a USB Bluetooth adapter like the one from Jabra and disable the internal Bluetooth adapter to solve my issue?

Thanks for your input and help.

    Venky

In case you haven't tried this out....when the static noise starts, I simply change the speaker output setting within Zoom / Teams to something other than the Air Pods like the built-in computer speaker and then switch it right back. This fixes the static issue and buys me another 30 minutes.

I have the exact same problem when running zoom on my surface pro 5 with the airpod pros after exactly 30 minutes to the second. I disconnect them from bluetooth and recconnect and im good for exactly 30 minutee again. So frustrating. Is this a windows problem or a zoom problem??? I’ve done all the steps above...

Having the same problem myself with a gen5 Surface Pro and Plantronics V5200. Also seems to be exactly 30 minutes for me, it's beyond annoying!

    Hi

Looks like simply changing the speaker option within Zoom when the static noise starts and moving back to Air Pods seems to fix the issue for another 30 minutes. It takes just a few seconds than disconnect and reconnect. Looks like it is Bluetooth adapter issue. I am seriously considering a Jabra USB blue-tooth adapter but would like to know from others if it does help solve this issue as it another $80.
