Pen pressure sensitivity in Photoshop CS5 on Surface Pro 7

Hey there,

So I bought a surface pro 7 (i7 processor, 16gb ram, 256gb HD) and the latest surface pen with the intention of using the pen's insane pressure sensitivity to draw/paint digitally in Photoshop, however I'm having a right nightmare trying to get it to work!

I tried following the relevant steps on both of these websites which show step by step instructions to solve this, apparently common, issue.

https://www.windowscentral.com/photoshop-surface-pro-experience

http://windowsbulletin.com/how-to-fix-surface-pro-pen-pressure-sensitivity-not-working/

However despite ensuring my graphics drivers are up to date, trying to install Wintab_x64_1.0.20 drivers and trying (and failing to manually install Intel’s HD Graphics version 10.18.10.3496, editing the pressure and hold settings on my pen, trying to edit performance preferences in Photoshop, nothing seems to have worked. Best I've managed is to get the paint brush in Photoshop reacting to pressure sensitivity for two strokes before the software no long recognises the pen in the active work area!

I appreciate that the solutions I have linked to are for older Surface models, so I was wondering if there is a work around for the latest model that I will have more success with? Or if these instructions for older models should still be relevant and I'm missing something?

Has anyone else experienced this issue and have a workable solution for the Surface Pro 7?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

UPDATE ON PHOTOSHOP PRESSURE SENSITIVITY ISSUE!

    Problem fixed!!

Hey, so for those who have encountered similar issues with Photoshop CS5 on the Surface Pro 7 and have been following this thread for some answers, I thought I would continue my findings on the matter till I found a resolution.

Well can happily say that a resolution to my problem was found!

I'd had enough of trying an failing to fix the problem at home and had pretty much exhausted any and all knowledge I could glean on the matter, so I took my Surface pro 7 and the pen back to the store where I'd bought it and secured an appointment with a member of their tech "Knowhow" support team.

After he had tried a few things and discovered that not only were Photoshop and GIMP not responding, but microsoft's own software Paint 3D wasn't behaving as it should with the pen's features! I had missed this as I was focused on trying to get Photoshop to work as priority.

It was surmised the the fault lay in the Surface's hardware and not in the pen's communication with the software I was trying to use. We tried a different pen on my Surface which seemed to confirm the fault with the Surface itself.

So I was given a new Surface pro 7, and returned home to repeat the process of setting it up, installing all system updates, installing Photoshop, fixing the tiny icon problem with the UI manifest as provided by Barb (thank you again for that fix!), AND THEN after also installing the 32bit and 64bit wintab drivers we finally have pen pressure sensitivity in Photoshop CS5!!!!

Thank you again those who offered advice and support! It was greatly appreciated!

Thank you for all your advise and support with this issue Barb, it's very appreciated!

I've done as you suggested and filed a report of this with the Feedback Hub. Fingers crossed a fix is found and the issue resolved. There is absolutely no reason that I can see for there to be a problem on this Pro7, when pen pressure in Photoshop works perfectly on older surface models! And it's not just Photoshop btw, GIMP is the same... It's so infuriating!!!

Anyway, since my last post it was suggested I try disabling Windows Ink Workspace...

So just in case anyone is following this thread looking for a fix to this same issue, you can rule that one out.. It didn't work for me!

Someone else has also suggested disabling Windows Tablet Input Services, so I'm reading up on this and whether it might be a valid solution to the problem. I'll report my findings either way.

If I've not found a resolution by Saturday I will be going back to Currys and handing the problem over to their Knowhow team. Fingers and toes crossed they can fix it otherwise this was a very expensive purchase for nothing!

Hi, I having the same problem, I cant get any pen sensitivity on Photoshop CS5, and I basically bought the surface pro to work on it, so if it doesn't work with photoshop, I might as well send the tablet back.
