3 external monitors with a surface laptop studio

I have a surface laptop studio and wish to use 3 external monitors with it. I have been successful in achieving it however it didn’t last long. I used a dell TB4 dock capable of 4 external monitors using one of the thunderbolt ports on the surface. Started getting issues with display drop, sometimes it would stop charging and stop displaying, have also tried alogic and targus docks.

    Hi siddhartha pathak,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. I understand that you are trying to connect a total of 3 external monitors to the Surface Laptop Studio which worked fine at first but now getting some display issues.

As much as we would love to assist you on this, but the external monitors supported for Surface devices are only up to two external monitors. Yes, there are reports where users are able to connect and use three external monitors, so we'll leave this post open for now to allow other users to share their experience and inputs on this concern.

Yes, you absolutely can do this!

I've been using 3 external monitors + my Surface screen since the Surface Book 1.

I had SB1, SB2, and now SLS initially using MS Surface Dock 2 with 3 externals at 2560x1600. Two were using the USB-C ports in the rear and the third using a USB-A port in the rear via a DisplayLink adapter. That's the only way I could get all 3 at 2560x1600. If I connected the third monitor to the USB-C port on the Surface or Dock 2, I'd get max 1920x1080 on one of the three, so the USB-A connection with DisplayLink solved that issue.

I got the MS TB4 Dock as soon as it came out, mainly because I have a Dell laptop for work and wanted to standardize on one Dock for both computers. The TB4 Dock disappointed because it has one less USB-C port than the Dock 2, and I had used that port with a fixed device. So I returned the TB4 Dock and got the CalDigit TS4 instead. Best decision!
