My the network adapter in my surface pro X is missing. There's no WiFi icon and mobile data icon. After turning it on for 5 mins, the blue screen of error would show SOC_subsystem_failure.

Ive seen the wifi adapter going missing on many surface pro 9's at my company. The fix, and this is super dumb, is to disconnect the power adapter and then hold down the power button for 60 full seconds. Fixes it every time. Have not found anything from M$ owning up to them causing this, i suspect its a firmware issue but only with 9's. Microsoft you suck, fix you stuff.

Check hidden drivers in Device Manager.

Right-click Start > Device Manager. Open the View menu and click Show hidden devices. Expand the Network adapters list and check if the adapter is now visible. If the adapter is still missing, click Action > Scan for hardware changes.

When I expand the Network Adapter list, the Microsoft WiFi Direct Virtual Adapter, Microsoft WiFi Direct Virtual Adapter, Qualcomm(R) WiFi B/G/N/AC (2x2) Svc and Snapdragon (TM) x24 LTE Modem are in a faded colour.

    Hi lee hongji,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. We're sorry for the trouble this has caused you.

I understand you're having issues with your Surface Pro's network adapter because it's missing, and the Wi-Fi symbol and mobile data are also not present. I am here to help and let us work on this together. Let me ask some questions.

    • May I know what build version of Windows are you on?
    • When did this issue started?
    • Any changes were made prior to this happening?
    • Does the issue go away if you reboot? or your device stuck on a bluescreen error?

Kindly try the following steps below to troubleshoot your device.

Force the device to shut down and restart.

Press and hold down the power button until your Surface shuts down and restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (about 20 seconds), then release the power button.

    Run Windows Network Troubleshooter.

    1. Select Start and type settings.  Select Settings > System > Troubleshoot.
    2. Select Other Troubleshooters.
    3. Select Network Adapter > Run.
    4. Follow the steps in the troubleshooter and see if that fixes the problem.

Check hidden drivers in Device Manager.

Right-click Start > Device Manager. Open the View menu and click Show hidden devices. Expand the Network adapters list and check if the adapter is now visible. If the adapter is still missing, click Action > Scan for hardware changes.

Let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia
