Task Bar on my SurfacePro stops automatically hiding.

My task bar settings are set to auto-hide but the task bar is locked in place, whether I have it at the bottom or on the sides.  Please advise how to fix this. The screen is too small to have that constantly displayed.

Crest_Z thanks for the reply. It started working again. I think what's happening is either certain websites or applications cause it to look in place temporarily. I haven't figured out what they are, but that's the only explanation I can think of to explain what's happening. Because it's back to working, I did not run the "in-place upgrade".  I'm overly cautious right now of doing anything that could potentially cause my SurfacePro to stop working, connecting, lose files, etc as I wouldn't be able to get outside support. I know you said there's nothing to worry about...I'm just being overly nervous, probably.

    Hi SteveF_147,

In addition to the suggested troubleshooting steps, I also would like you to check this in settings if this option is being enabled.

    Open Settings

    Select Personalization

In the panel on the left-hand side of the screen, choose Taskbar.

Then, find "Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode" and toggle it "On". You can also hide it while the the device is on tablet mode.

If these options are grayed out, please let us know so we can further assist you.

If the suggested troubleshooting steps help, feel free to mark our post as an answer. Otherwise, don't hesitate to respond to this thread for further assistance.

    Kind Regards,

    Crest_Z

Ok, so the fix was only temporary. The task bar has stopped hiding even though I haven't changed any settings since yesterday. Please advise!!!

Crest_Z, thanks, I had already done this, several times. It didn't help resolve the issue.

    Hi, SteveF_147!

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your concerns. We are sorry to learn that your Taskbar stopped hiding. Thanks for taking the time to let us know about this and allowing us to help you out. May we know what type of Surface device you have? Is it the Surface Go or Surface Pro (5th Gen)? We need to make sure we are working on the right device. For the meantime, please perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:

    ·         Check for Windows Update:

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates

Please restart your device to apply the updates.

    ·         Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit and make sure to complete the tasks.

    ·         Force shutdown the device and restart.

We hope this helps you out. Otherwise, don't hesitate to respond to this thread if there’s anything else that needs to be addressed.

    Kind regards,

    Janette_Z
