Hello,

I am trying to connect my surface book 3 (Quadro RTX 3000) via nativ wireless display to my Samsung Q80 QLED TV. However, when i extend the displays it doesnt support 4K on the wireless display (Max supported is 2560x1600, but that leaves bars on the side so i used 2560x1440). Is there a limit on the wireless display? Ive been able to hard wire 3 4k monitors up to my laptop before. Thank you in advance for any ideas/solutions.

Thanks for keeping us posted, SurajParikh.

It would be best to use the adapter. Only the Microsoft 4K Wireless Display Adapter can display in 4K. You also need to ensure that your second display can support 3840x2160 resolution or higher.

    Hi Steven,

Thanks again for your response. If I could please opine a bit further; all of the TV's I have tried this on support 4k (have tried on 3 tvs: Samsung Q80 qled, QN85A neo-qled, LG OLED CX series) and are miracast capable.

I may be mistaken, but I was under the impression that the wireless dispaly adapter is for TVs that are not miracast enabled, all of mine are and miracast inherently supports 4k.

So can you please provide some technical detail as to why I would need this adapter if my tv and laptop already have this capability?

    Thank you!

    Hello Suraj989,

Thanks for reaching Microsoft Community. We're sorry to learn about this issue on your external monitor. We'll do our best to help.

Were you using a wireless adapter in this set up? What version of Windows you have?

Please be informed that if you're trying to connect your device to another monitor wirelessly you may be able to achieve 4K resolution if you'd be using a 4K Wireless Video Adapter. See Using the Microsoft Wireless Video Adapter.

In the meantime, also check Troubleshoot connecting Surface to a second screen (microsoft.com) and follow it's troubleshooting guide.

Hope this helps. Feel free to respond on this thread to let us know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Steven,

Thank you for your response. I.am using windows 10 pro. And I am not using a wireless adapter, I'm using the native wireless display capability (Miracast). What's odd is when I duplicate the displays I can get a resolution of 3240x2160 in my Samsung TV. But when I extend the display or make it show in just the Samsung the max resolution I can get is 2560x1600. I don't know why I would need a Miracast adapter if I'm using the native function. Shouldn't it be able to support 3840 x 2160?
