I tried various docks in attempt to make my 2 HD and 1x 4k monitor to work via one cable from Surface pro 11

    1. Dell WD22TB4 only 1 monitor worked
    2. SATECHI Thunderbolt 4 Dock Multiport, 16 Ports - 2 monitors worked at a time (I used USB - C cable directly to my 4k monitor) and 2 HD monitors were via the docking station. however the docking station did not pickup monitors on reboot and you d need to plug/unplug the monitors
    3. Spigen ArcDock Pro 14 in 1 Docking Station - same as Satechi (i tried 2 with the same issue!)
    4. Kensington AD4010T4 Thunderbolt and StarTech.com Thunderbolt 4 Multi-Display Docking Station, Quad/Triple/Dual Monitor Dock - best I tried but again only 2 monitors worked. very stable - no issues
    5. my partners Lenovo ThinkPad thunderbolt 3 (2nd gen) workstation dock is similar to Kensington/Startech but one monitor can go black occasionally till i move the mouse there and signal restores

summary is that I could not make it work via 3 monitors.... early adopter's life but I am keeping the surface pro 11 as it is fantastic otherwise :)

hope above would help someone to choose the right dock

Prior to buying my Surface Pro 11 this past week, I was using a Surface Pro 8 with Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports connected to an Anker Power Expand Thunderbolt 4 Mini-Dock. I was able to use two 4K monitors at 60 Hz. The SP8 to Anker connection is a Cable Matter 2.6 foot USB4 Thunderbolt 4 Cable. The Mini-Port was also powering the SP8 and I could easily use accessories through the other dock ports. The SP11 has only USB-C/USB4 ports, not Thunderbolt 4. I decided to try this same Mini-Dock with the SP11 before buying anything else. Once I had set up the Surface Pro 11, I plugged the Mini_Dock's Thunderbolt 4 2.6-foot cable into the new Surface Pro 11 and once again I had two 4K Monitors running at 60 HZ and the SP11 was being adequately powered. I have yet to fully try the accessory ports. As I understand after doing some online research, USB4 will work on a cable 1 meter long or less, whereas Thunderbolt 4 will work on a cable 2 meters long. I am pleased that I did not need to get another Dock; my next move would have been the Microsoft Thunderbolt 4 Dock. I suspect that the Microsoft Docks would also need USB4/Thunderbolt 4 cables less than a meter long to support adequate data transfer.

Now, if I could only figure out how to get my printer as well as my anti-virus and VPN software to work with the new Surface Pro 11.

As to dock selection, I suggest that you consider (1) what monitors you want to use and (2) what other connections you want to accomplish with this dock, to include powering the Surface Pro. From what you say, the MS Surface Dockdocking station is accomplishing what you want. It powers the Surface Pro 11 and provides a reliable connection to your external monitor. I tried this MS Surface Dock back in 2016, but had problems, especially with a 4K monitor. Some considerations for monitors include (1) how many external monitors are desired, (2) monitor resolution, and (3) refresh rate. I have also found that the cables chosen may be important. Shorter lengths for example support better data transmission. Note that the Surface Pro 11 does not support Thunderbolt 4, but rather only USB4. Cable quality is another issue. Also, how much wattage does the Surface Pro require? - this varies; the Surface Pro 11 requires 39 W but thee Surface Pro 8 requires 65 W.

I have a surface pro 11 and I am using the Microsoft dock for my old Surface pro 4. I noticed today that my surface said the battery is charging and at 79%. I find this odd since my surface is always plugged in so the battery should be 100%. Is this a dock issue?

I can confirm what Mitchell is saying. Surface Dock 2 works fine!

I also noticed a dell dock is not working at all - leaving even the surface with black screen until you disconnect.

Some monitors with build in dock (aka a lot of ports) generally work, but then devices like a build in camera sometimes fail.

I also noticed a Dragonfly Cobalt USB DAC works, but not properly. My guess is that when ARM based drivers are not available, windows falls back on the intel-based driver in emulation. For time critical stuff like 4K cameras and music this generally does not work properly.

I suspect overtime, the ARM specific drivers will come as snapdragon based PCs will become more common.

    Thanks,

    Ruud
