I have had this issue on and off, mostly on, for years. I got sick and tired of it and just stopped using YouTube. There's obviously some ongoing issue that just can't get worked out permanently. I'd get it fixed and it would be ok for a time, could be a few d8ays could be a few weeks, a few hours or a few months but it always comes back and is a pain in the t rear. So much so that it ruined my desire to use YouTube. That's how I fixed it I know that answer isn't what everyone wants to hear but it's the only thing that works as a permanent fix. The delay will always be back at some point and it's not always the same problem with the same fix. It's just garbage.

    Hello Sienna Gillespie,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Based on your description of the problem, it seems that the problem is only on Youtube.

So for comparison, have you tested:

    • Will the same problem occur again in other video websites?
    • If you try to play a local video, will the same problem occur again?

This is to check if the issue is related to your Surface device's audio driver, although all indications are that the issue seems to be more related to the browser and Youtube.

I tend to judge that the problem is not directly related to Windows, but that the possible causes of the exception are:

    1. The cache data of the browser is excessive.
    2. Extensions installed in the browser may be affected.
    3. 3oo many video sources are accessed at the same time, causing overload.

So using the Edge browser as an example, you might be able to try something right now:

    1. Clear the cache data of the browser.

Open the Edge browser's Settings, click on "Privacy, Search and Services," and then clean it up in "Clear Browsing Data."

Disclaimer: Your browser automatically saves temporary internet files to help pages load faster. Clearing this cache will sometimes fix page display problems. Please back up all your personal files first, such as Favorites, to ensure you do not lose data.

    1. Temporarily disable or completely uninstall the plug-in installed in the Edge browser, and check whether the problem occurs again.

Some user feedback may be that some plugins that block ads are causing this exception.

    3. Test with another browser.

I recommend you try the **** Insider version of Edge, which is separate from the built-in edge browser and can be uninstalled but synced with all your data when logging into the same Microsoft account. This will not require you to change your usage habits, but can be used as a way to test or as a temporary alternative browser.

    4. Try testing multiple Youtube videos and check if some of the playback Settings in the Youtube browser are affected.

If you find that some of your videos are experiencing this exception, try lowering the resolution, which can reduce the bandwidth load and may alleviate the problem.

    5. Replace the network environment with a new one.

Since this issue only seems to occur when playing network videos, I might consider whether there is a problem with the network itself. I think it is necessary to replace a new network for testing.

If you find anything important, please don't hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards,
