Microsoft Surface Pro 4 - 2 screen setup

Hi there,

I have a Surface PRO 4. I have two LG monitors that have HDMI / DisplayPort and USB-C ports.

How can I get my Surface to display on both monitors. As far as I am aware, the display port is the only port that will allow us to achieve this.

Many thanks.

    Hi Max Staniland,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community.

The Surface Pro 4 (Surface Pro 4 specs and features - Microsoft Support) uses its mini-DisplayPort for external monitor. However, since the device only has 1 mini-DisplayPort, and you are trying to connect 2 external monitors, you'll need a hub or a Surface Dock where you could connect 2 external monitors. See: Identify your Surface Dock and features - Microsoft Support. For the Surface Dock 2 where it uses USB-C port for external display, you also need an adapter to connect the monitor from its DisplayPort to the USB-C port of the dock. The Surface Dock 1 uses mini-DisplayPort also like the Surface Pro 4.

Please see this page also for more details: Troubleshoot connecting Surface to an external display - Microsoft Support.

    Kind regards,

    Marrion

    Hi Max Staniland,

Yes, the Surface Dock 2 would allow you to connect 2 external monitors through the 2 USB-C ports as shown on your photo.

Just to correct the photo though on the port that would be used on the Surface Pro 4, the Surface Dock 2 will connect to the charging port of the Surface so it would also charge the device at the same time.

    Kind regards,
    Marrion

    Hi Marrion,

Thanks for this. So I think that the Dock 2 will be the best option here, as I mentioned, both Monitors have USB-C capability.

I just want to confirm if it is possible that I could have 2 monitors both plugged in via USB-C? Like in this little image I put together below.

    Thanks!

    Hi Marrion,

Is there a cheaper alternative to this solution. Or is the dock the only way to achieve this?

    Many thanks,
