Microsoft Surface Book 1 - Replacement Keyboard

Hi,

We recently had an accident with my son's Surface Book 1, with a drink spilt onto the keyboard which is unfortunately no longer working.  Only some keys now register.

Can you advise if it is possible to purchase a replacement keyboard, and if so where?  The main part of the Surface still works fine, as does the trackpad etc.

Regards.

    Frankly, it's utterly ridiculous.

The Surface range is positioned as a premium product. I'm now being told that their is no servicing or repair available, my only option is to replace the whole machine at a cost of nearly £600 because the keyboard (a completely separate module) is broken.

I shall never buy a Surface product again.  As a long term Microsoft customer, who spends a lot both personally and professionally, this is a major own goal by the company. Extremely poor.

Unfortunately, those ebay knock offs from china dont have the same components like the additional GPU and such. Pretty much it's just a keyboard. Researched a lot and only way to get a fully functional one with all its part is to buy a used surface book for $450. Extremely disappointed they don't sell just a keyboard for it. I bought mine for about $1,400 and after 14 months the keyboard just stopped working. I know things break and nothing is 100% BUT not to offer a replacement part for a keyboard is ridiculous. I bought some for my business and regret it. Now im fearful my other 3 surface laptops I bought for my business will have their keyboards fail and render them mostly useless. I could buy another bluetooth keyboard to put on top of the keyboard lol but that's just tacky and not an image I want to show to the public.  I will not be buying microsoft laptops for my business any longer.  A friend of mine that has a big plastic surgery clinic will also not invest in more of the surface book laptops because one of the surface book keyboard also became unresponsive. Unless they begin selling replacement keyboards do not buy the surface book. Buy the other microsoft tablets if you must that can have the keyboard replaced but they wont have the power of the Book. So, what to do? I'll just buy from another company.

I'd like to know about this too; I have a gen 1 Book from work with a faulty keyboard that we'd like to replace.

It still works, except if plugged into power, in which case I get cascading USB not recognized error messages...

It's pretty disappointing that MS would not supply replacement parts for their products I have to say.

Microsoft will see you a complete out of warranty device, but does not sell the keyboard base separately. Others have had good success buying a keyboard base from eBay sellers..
