Horizontal Strips on Screen Not Responding to Touch

I have been having issues with the touchscreen on my Surface Go. There are 2 horizontal bars (invisible) that are not responding to any type of touch from my stylus or finger. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, as well as simply restarting my computer, but to no avail. The first bar made an appearance a number of months after I bought my device, and the second bar showed up during the last month of use. I'm afraid that the bars will continue to appear, rendering my touchscreen useless.

In addition, the UEFI menus on the 1st Generation Surface don't even display a button on the top most edge of the Surface.  The horizontal edge closest to the front facing camera simply doesn't respond to touch.  I have tried reinstalling Windows, this seems to be a hardware problem.

It's a shame, because this was my second try owning a Surface.  I had a quality problem the first time too on a Surface 6 Pro.

This time was a bigger burn, because I actually paid for the warranty and got no use out of it.

Cautionary tale for those considering a used first generation Surface Go.  If you get one with a bad touch screen - no option for repair, it's a nearly $300 replacement after taxes for a like refurbished unit.  The replacement displays on Ebay are $159 and that's hardly a good route to take.

Hi PhilPan1989, have you tried the steps above and see if the touch works on the UEFI settings?

Yea and no change in the behavior.

I have the same issue on the top of my screen of my Surface Go Model 1824 which of course is now out of warranty since I bought it at launch.  I never got the chance to use the  warranty and now I'm having problems with the touchscreen failing after the last several Windows updates.

I have tried the recalibration, reinstalling the driver, reinstalling Windows 10 Home Edition, and also the UEFI process mentioned here, and it's still the case, the top edge of the display has no touch sensitivity, a horizontal invisible bar that doesn't work.

    Hi hpel24601,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your inquiry.

We suggest booting the device to the UEFI settings to verify if the issue is something related to hardware or software. Turn off the device then press the volume up and the power button for 15 seconds and check if the lines are still visible on the UEFI. If yes, this could be a hardware issue.

Please reach out to the Microsoft Surface Support to check your options. If you're located outside the United States, the Global Support can also help.

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    John Neil_J
