Is the Surface Pro suitable to use as a laptop for AutoCAD, Adobe InDesign and Sketchup?

Hi Everyone,

I'm an interior designer and looking for a laptop that I can use with the following programs: AutoCAD LT, Adobe InDesign and Sketchup?

I will often have two of the three, or sometimes all programs open at the same time.

I'm looking at the Surface Pro as it will give me the ability to hand sketch as well, but does it operate like a normal laptop? Can I use a mouse with it?

Or is it more like a tablet (eg. iPad) where you can only use tablet/mobile versions of software?

I have a PC that is spec'd to handle the above but looking for a more mobile option.

I also have an iPad but finding it difficult and annoying as I can only really use it well for hand sketching.

It's not like a proper computer obviously! So I'd like to combine the two - and thinking perhaps the Surface Pro would work for this.

Look forward to your recommendations!

Thank you!

P.S. When I submit this it asks me to select a Surface Pro model - I've just selected one at random as I'm not sure what the differences are! Just an FYI so people know I am not after a specific one!

That business Surface Pro device with an Intel Core Ultra processor will be able to run all your listed software.

Sorry Dave! I just noticed a business Surface Pro where they use Intel processors.

I am thinking these would work?

Thanks so much for your advice, Dave.

Really appreciate it!! Looks like I'll just need to get a normal laptop without the sketch ability.

    Thanks again :)

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

The new Surface Pro has a Snapdragon X ARM processor, AutoDesk indicate that AutoCAD LT is not supported on a device with an ARM processor, and currently the release version of Adobe InDesign also does not work on an ARM processor, however, Adobe indicate they are working on a Beta version to make that software compatible with a device with an ARM processor.
