Surface Connect to USB-C adapter for SP 11

Hi there, I've seen that the older SP's have a Surface Connect to USB-C adapter. I have the SP 11 and I would love to find one for this new SP. But, everywhere I look, they only go up to the SP 7.

Yes, I know I can charge my Surface Pro with the USB-C as well as the charger. But the charger is bulky and I travel a lot for work. And, where I have an external travel monitor that's Thunderbolt, and an external SSD that's encrypted as we don't keep work files on the device if it happens to be stolen.

So, with that, that uses up the two USB-C ports that are available. I would really love to have an adapter that would work, so I'm not carrying around as much in my laptop bag. Yes, I could get a Thunderbolt extender, but then I'm back to carrying more than I need. I have a 200w plug that I carry with me in my bag, so I can charge with just one plug and my USB-C Cables.

So, if I don't want to lug a bulky charger around, along with everything else I have to carry with me, having a way to use my peripherals and charge my SP11 would be wonderful.

If I have the correct power requirements, and a cable that will support a higher wattage, will those little adapters work?

    Hi C-pher,

What you are referring to is an accessory that has not been sold since nor works with any product beyond Surface Pro 6. All newer models come with a USB-C port already.

The solution for your use case is to get a USB-C Hub or Dock to extend the number of ports available to you. Here are some options for you, you can select the best that works for you and your travel needs.

The Dock 2 may be a good option to think about as you could then no longer need to carry around a separate 200w power supply as the Dock 2 provides the same wattage and Dock 2 uses the Surface Connect port so you are not using up a USB-C port on the device to connect it with.

If you want to keep your 200w power supply and minimize what you need to pack around, then I would look at the smaller form factor Designed for Surface USB-C hubs that have pass through charging.

    Hope this helps,

    Greg
