Microsoft Miracast - Wirelessly project to a Touch Screen Monitor & use the Touch Feature

Hi,

I was hoping for some help within the Microsoft Community!

I want to use a Microsoft Miracast to project what is being displayed on my Windows 10 laptop to a 55' Dell Touchscreen Monitor and use the interactive touch feature.

Essentially project what is being shown on my laptop and use the touchscreen as a big tablet to markup, draw, zoom in and out and etc. When I tried, I was able to project my screen but the touchscreen functionality was not working.

Is this possible or would I need to purchase another Microsoft product? In addition to the Miracast do I need to purchase anything else or install any additional drivers on my laptop to ensure this works?

Thanks!

    Hi Crest_Z,

Unfortunately that didnt solve the problem.

    I tried two things:

    1. making the Dell touchscreen monitor the main display
    2. making the Dell touchscreen the only PC Screen

But for both options the touchscreen doesnt seem to work.

It only works with an HDMI connection.

The Dell monitor we have on hand is just a touchscreen monitor, it’s not a PC like the Microsoft Hub for example.

    Thanks,

    Keerthan

Sorry, no, I do not know of any third party solution that would do this.

Miracast does not support this. It supports projecting the display, but does not
transfer touch capabilities to the other device or monitor.

    Hello, Keerthan Sivanesan!

Thanks for reaching back and we're sorry for the delayed response. As what you described, it looks like that a wired connection will allow your Dell monitor to have its touch functionality work. Can you tell us the model of your Dell monitor? Is it the C5518QT? Also, what is the make and model of your Windows 10 laptop?

If you have the C5518QT, I saw an article here from HP's website: https://www.dell.com/support/article/en-hr/sln306549/c8618qt-and-c5518qt-monitor-troubleshooting-guide?lang=en

    Disclaimer:

There are some links that will lead you to non-Microsoft websites. Please watch out for ads on the sites that may advertise products frequently classified as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Products). Thoroughly research any product advertised on the site before you purchase it.

    It says there that:

Touch functionality follows the Input source and USB Pairing. i.e. if using HDMI 1 as Input the USB 1 has to be used as upstream port to achieve touchscreen functionality, USB 2 for HDMI 2 and so forth.

I am not very sure of what Dell meant with this. If this has something to do with wireless displays, have you plugged the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter's cable's HDMI end to the monitor's HDMI 1 port and the USB end to the USB 1 portof the monitor? If that's what you did, it is possible that the touch functionality of the monitor only works with an HDMI cable.

You may want to check further with Dell Support on this regarding the touch feature on their monitor if it works wirelessly. You can also post it on the dedicated  **Dell Community Forums**for further assistance.

We hope this helps you out.

    Regards,

    Janette_Z

    Hi Keerthan Sivanesan,

Thank you for reaching out Microsoft Community.

The touch feature of your Dell Touchscreen monitor will be disabled the moment you are using this as a second monitor. The touch functionality only works on that Windows 10 device if that has a touch feature because it is your main display. There's no drivers that will make it work nor any stuff you need to just get it to work.

If this answers your question, feel free to mark this post as an answer. Otherwise, don't hesitate to respond to this thread if there's anything else that needs to be addressed.

    Kind Regards,

    Crest_Z
