Bing search results pages displaying different style fonts?

Hi all!

I noticed recently that my Bing search results pages are displaying italicized and bolded fonts on certain words and for certain search results, even for some of the URL's. I've attached a screenshot below.

Could this be just a bug? I don't remember changing any appearance settings. Thanks!

    Hi Isaid,

Thanks for the update. That’s great news! Yes, it likely was just a cache or personalization bug that Edge held onto in your regular profile. It’s more common than it seems, especially when browser sessions stretch over time or when background changes happen in services like Bing or Edge extensions.

Either way, I’m really glad to hear the fonts are back to normal!

If you encounter anything else or have questions, please don't hesitate to reach out at any time. I’m here to help. If you don't have any more questions, feel free to choose a rating and have a great day!

    All the best!

    Adrian

An update! I cleared out the cache and cookies and opened Edge again and poof! The fonts are all back to normal. Could it have just been a bug of some sort? Whatever the cause, thanks for your help Adrian!

    Hi,

Thank you for the update, that was really helpful. Since the issue is only happening in Microsoft Edge, doesn't appear in InPrivate mode or any browser, and you're signed in to your Microsoft account, it's likely tied to either a profile setting, cached personalization, or a browser extension running under your normal session. Yes please let me know if the issue still the same after the initial steps provided. If the issue still the same,

    Here’s what I suggest next

    • Step 1) You mentioned security is set to Strict. This can sometimes block or alter font loading. Try this

    Go to edge://settings/privacy

Under Tracking prevention, set it temporarily to Balanced

Restart the browser and check Bing again

    • Step 2) Disable extensions one by one

Even if you didn’t install anything recently, some existing extensions could have updated in the background.

    Go to edge://extensions

    Turn off all extensions

    Restart Edge and reload Bing

If fonts are back to normal, turn them on one at a time to find the culprit.

    • Step 3) Instead of wiping everything, try this lighter approach

    Go to edge://settings/clearBrowsingData

Choose Cookies and cached files, select All time, but uncheck Passwords or Autofill

Clear the data, then reload Bing

If that doesn't help and you'd like to be thorough

    • Step 4) Create a test profile in Edge

Click your profile icon in Edge (top right)

Click Add profile, then set it up without signing in yet

Open Bing and see if the font issue still appears

If everything looks normal, then the problem is specific to your original profile’s data.

Let me know how that goes. I’m confident we’ll narrow this down to either a cached personalization setting or something attached to your current profile.

    Best regards,

    Adrian

    1. Nope, just on Edge.
    2. Don't think I've installed anything funky lately
    3. Yes I'm signed in to my Microsoft account while searching
    4. These italicized fonts do not appear while browsing InPrivate
    5. No, but I did recently change the security settings to "strict", but don't think this would affect anything related to fonts

sfc scannow and the DISM tool didn't find anything wrong, though the DISM did take a bit long to complete.

Will reply after trying out those other steps!

    Hi,

Thanks for bringing this up. I’m Adrian, an independent Windows advisor here to help.

Here are some key questions to help narrow down the cause.

    1. Do the bold and italic fonts appear in other browsers too or just one (like Edge or Chrome)?
    2. Have you installed any browser extensions or font-related apps recently?
    3. Are you signed into Bing with your Microsoft account when this happens?
    4. Do fonts look normal in Bing's incognito or InPrivate mode?
    5. Have you recently changed your system's accessibility or display settings?

    Steps that you can try.

    • Step 1) Try signing out of your Microsoft account in the browser and reload Bing.
Also try an incognito or InPrivate window to compare the appearance.

Step 2) Clear font cache and browser cache
Press Windows + R, type services.msc, press Enter

    Locate Windows Font Cache Service
    Right-click it, select Stop
    Then go to this folder:
    C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\FontCache
Delete all files in this folder (you may need admin rights)
    Restart your PC

Step 3) Try to reset browser Settings
    In Edge:
Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their default values

    In Chrome:
Settings > Reset and clean up > Restore settings to their original defaults

Step 4) Open Command Prompt as Admin and run:

    sfc /scannow
This will check for any system file or font-related corruption

Let me know what browser you're using and the results of the steps above. I’ll stick with you until we get it displaying normally again.

    Best regards,
    Adrian
