Is this a scam or is Microsoft really doing this sweepstakes?

The Microsoft Rewards Ultimate Giveaway, is a legitimate sweepstakes offering participants a chance to win $1,000,000 in cash, along with several secondary prizes. Here are a few easy ways to verify its legitimacy:
Legit: It's not a scam, just marketing to drive adoption. :)

Verify: You can easily verify the legitimacy of the giveaway by:

    1. Official Website: You can verify by going following my referral link to go to the official Microsoft Rewards Website.
    2. No Purchase Necessary: Participation in the giveaway does not require any purchase or payment. Common characteristic of legitimate sweepstakes.
    3. Clear Terms and Conditions: The official rules and terms of the giveaway are clearly outlined on the Microsoft Rewards website.
    4. Verify through AI: You can ask Copilot or any other Large Language Model with internet access whether or not this is a legitimate sweepstakes to get additional info.

Bug warning: Some objectives to earn points seem impossible to complete at the moment. Software is rarely perfect from the beginning. Give them time.
I wrote to support to confirm they are working on solving the issues a few minutes ago. Will update this thread when I get news! Edit*: I got news but the person at Microsoft did not seem to understand my problem, though my formulation was potentially to blame.

Not spam / commonly asked questions: I don't know why ljredux is talking about spam. You can see how to opt out on the page for commonly asked questions: Learn about Microsoft Rewards - Microsoft Support

You can also turn notifications off and unsubscribe from emails without having to opt out of the contest. :)

If you found my answer helpful, you can enter the sweepstakes by visiting the official Microsoft page using my referral link: https://rewards.bing.com/sweepstakes/million/about?rh=9B85DCD3&ref=1MĀ
May the odds be in your favor! šŸ€

P.S. I was already using Edge so I'm gaining points with which I can purchase more entries to the sweepstakes or give to charity with zero efforts haha... pretty nice!

P.P.S. joe manas has taken some parts of my answer and added his own referral link to get free entries without telling anyone, which seems dishonest... So I improved my answer with parts of his. Haha ;)

all you need to do is fall for the marketing once, and Microsoft spam you about it every single week.

I don't see any spam... Where do you see spam?
