Unable to connect An error occurred during a connection to cj.dotomi.com

I'm having issues accessing the cashback deals on Bing.

For instance, "Up to $150 cashback" for shopping with Verizon.

There are these blue flags with dollar amounts inside them for some business links that are returned in your Bing searches.

Well... I click on the verizon link and it starts to take me to their page but then I get a screen that says, "Unable to connect
An error occurred during a connection to cj.dotomi.com" and some troubleshooting tips.

Most of the time I must manually type "www.verizon.com" into the URL bar area in order to actually get to their site.

The problem is with MANY different shopping websites, I only used verizon as an example.

Today I went through the Bing page and selected verizon. It had the same result, the same "Unable to connect..." thing came up.

A while back I did a search for cj.dotomi.com and it seems like it's a bad thing. I only read the synopsis of all the different returns but didn't actually go into any of the links that were returned.

I guess I'm confused... is the cj.dotomi part of Bing rewards or is it not?

I use Firefox 99% of the time but then there is that 1% of the time that I try using Edge and the result is EXACTLY the same as what happens in Firefox.

I hope that I've came across clear enough to be understood.

Thank you for your time and help,

Jeff

Hi Pilerman!

I'm Jen, and I'd be happy to help you out with this issue.

No, it's not part of Bing Rewards. Have you tried the solution posted in this thread?

If the problem persists, go to Programs and Features, look for this name and uninstall it.

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be glad to assist you further.

Best Regards!

Jen :)

    Scratch that, it didn't work.

I'm figuring out that it might be something to do with my VPN (currently is Bitdefender, previously was Kaspersky).

I tried adding cj.dotomi into the whitelist of the VPN but it didn't help.

I believe the fix is to shut off the VPN altogether and then turning it back on once the site opens.

    We'll have to see.

I'm certain that the issue is with Bing Rewards though and more specifically, how the rewards programs tracks you to the intended site so that your rewards can be generated.

    Jen,

I think that you nailed it, they nailed, somebody nailed it!

I used to use Kaspersky and I still have a year or two left of my three-year plan but... when the Ukraine thing started, I feared what the Russian dude might do in retaliation of what the world is doing to cripple his ability, I removed Kaspersky from all my devices and went with Bitdefender instead.

Well... I searched the programs and features in my computer and couldn't find that program listed. I couldn’t access Kaspersky in order to turn anything off (even temporarily) nor could I add it to the whitelist of allowed banners.

I downloaded and ran the program (cleaner) that was recommended in that post, and it seems to have corrected the issue, time will tell for sure.
