CoPilot no longer creates images from prompts. Puts up an account creation message.

I've started using the CoPilot AI tool integrated into the Edge browser. I've had fun using it to create images from a prompt. However today it refused to create an image, giving me this message: "We can only generate images for users that are signed in with your personal account. If you want to sign in or don't have an account, please visit Image Creator to join."
Is this some new tightening-up of the usage conditions?
I asked CoPilot itself why this should be:

Me: Do I now need to create an account to create images? Or have I hit a usage limit?

CoPilot: No, you don’t need to create an account to create images. As for usage limits, there are no specific limits set for creating images. If you’re experiencing any issues, it might be due to a temporary technical glitch. Please try again later. If the problem persists, you may want to check your internet connection or browser settings. Let me know if you need further assistance! 😊

Tried to create an image. Got the error message above again.

Me: "We can only generate images for users that are signed in with your personal account. If you want to sign in or don't have an account, please visit Image Creator to join." Why am I seeing this message, if there is no need to create an account or any usage limit?

CoPilot: I apologize for any confusion. As an AI, I don’t require users to create an account or sign in to interact with me or to generate images. The message you’re seeing might be related to a specific platform or service you’re using outside of this conversation. If you’re trying to use a specific image creation service or tool, it might have its own requirements or limitations. I recommend checking the specific terms of use or reaching out to the support team of the service you’re using for more accurate information. I hope this helps!

Me: The platform is Microsoft's Co-Pilot, as integrated into the Edge Browser.

CoPilot: I see. As an AI developed by OpenAI, I don’t have direct integration with Microsoft’s Co-Pilot or the Edge Browser. My capabilities are independent of any specific platform or browser. If you’re seeing a message related to account creation or usage limits, it might be specific to the platform or service you’re using. I recommend reaching out to the support team of the respective service for more accurate information. I’m here to assist with information and answer questions to the best of my knowledge and abilities. Let me know if you have any other questions or need further assistance! 😊

So it looks like I'm getting messages directly from the OpenAI system, but MS's CoPilot interface is putting obstacles in the way.
Can anyone explain what is going on?

I have been using Copilot with my personal account to create images for many weeks, now it doesn't create images anymore. It constantly lies by saying "I'll try to create that", then never show you anything, no matter how long you wait.

Having discovered this same issue I can confirm that it is the default experience for everyone and easily tested as being so by making alt accounts on multiple machines as I have done this day.

How illegal this is, or not, I am not yet certain, but regardless I will now not be paying Microsoft money (for any of their other products and services) when I can get a better service from a 3rd party AI art generator who does not abuse its monopoly by acting in such underhand manner.

I am also experiencing that issue. It was working smoothly and then it just suddenly stop loading images to my prompts. It is taking hours of loading and still nothing is generating. I use very clear and simple prompts that have born results historically, but on all my devices : iPhone, iPad, and Chrome browser , I have not been able to generate any images. I have tried force closing and reopening the browser and apps , signing out of my Microsoft account, clearing browsing data, turning off VPN, clearing my chat history within copilot to cancel any un-generated images that may still be attempting to render. I am not too sure what else to do...

Today I wanted to play with a few copilot generated images (Android tablet, Edge browser). In the past I've had 4 or 5 from copilot using Edge browser (IRRC Windows 10, Edge browser).

So today Copilot said it cannot generate images. I asked it when it had stopped. It replied that it had never offered them. I pointed out that some image generating sample prompts were showing above our dialogue, eg 'Generate a 3D film poster of a female astronaut. Use the RenderMan renderer. 3D. digital art. High definition, high contrast, high colour saturation'.

    Copilot replied:

"I apologize for any confusion. As of my current capabilities, I am unable to generate images. It’s possible that there might be a misunderstanding or a mix-up with another service. My function is to assist within the chat by providing information, generating text, and helping with various queries, but not to create images."

This is interesting because Microsoft itself hasn't made any statement about a change so maybe Microsoft's own AI team is unaware of the issue. The fact that copilot is behaving differently to different people and possibly dissembling in its replies is quite typical for AI. It's a 'black box' and even its creators don't understand its rules!
