I encountered a problem with the ctfmon.exe system error in safe mode. I tried to solve it, but the situation was not ideal. I have failed to upload pictures several times. Please allow me to review the contents of ctfmon.exe.

ctfmon.exe - System Error: The system detected a stack-based buffer overflow in this application. An overflow could allow a malicious user to gain control of this application.

I searched for solutions online and tried for a long time, but they all failed. There is still a problem with windows update in the troubleshooter.

I used dism to repair it, but it was not ideal. My windows update service was also turned on, and I also used the command

sfc /scannow

It informed me that no integrity violations were found. Of course, I also tried deleting ctfmon.exe. After deletion, ctfmon.exe in safe mode no longer pops up, but my input method cannot be used.

I have also used Kaspersky for anti-virus, but now I have no way to solve it, and I don’t want to reinstall the system. There are too many files, and ctfmon.exe will not pop up in normal mode, but in safe mode It keeps popping up, and then pops up after a while after closing it, and my windows update troubleshooter also shows that there is a problem. But I can't find any way to solve it. I also checked the CBS.log log file, but still can't solve it.My windows version is win11.What should I do?

Use a standard keyboard for fault finding and you won't have this problem either. 😊

    Hi na lu1,

ctfmon.exe should be located in system 32 folder, if listed outside this folder it might contain a virus. It is used to communicate for input device to the computer so quite important.

I would not try to un-install it unless its not in the system 32 folder.

You are running Insider beta install to receive a green screen so which version/ build are you using? Type winver in search and post back the build.

Having one-off green screen in beta software is not a problem but if you have multi green screens then its worth trying to locate the issue.

    Things I try or check.

running the latest bios for my computer

using the latest drivers of motherboard and video cards

using Windows security instead of 3rd party antivirus

remove from docking station while testing if you use one.

make sure you running the latest Insider install for your flight.

Thank you for your response. Based on the blue screen error you provided, it seems to be caused by an AMD driver issue. I suggest that you try uninstalling your AMD driver in safe mode and then restart your computer to see if it works properly.

There is also a possibility of third-party software interference causing driver malfunctions. You can try the following steps in safe mode:

    1. Press Windows+R and type "msconfig".
    2. Open System Configuration and select the General tab.
    3. Choose "Selective startup" and uncheck the box for "Load startup items".
    4. Go to the Services tab, click on "Hide all Microsoft services" in the bottom left corner, and then click on "Disable all".
    5. Click OK and restart your computer. (Please make sure to select "Hide all Microsoft services" before clicking "Disable all", as not doing so may cause unforeseen issues like being unable to enter the system).
    6. Check if the issue still occurs.

Additionally, I noticed that you are using a Chinese system. If needed, I can also communicate with you in Chinese.

    Hello, Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Thanks for your feedback, Since your issue did not occur in a normally booted system, could you please describe the reason why you need to use it in safe mode?

Ctfmon.exe is an important component of the input method component in the system, and deleting this file will cause the input method controller to stop working.

You can copy a Ctfmon.exe file from another computer to restore the input method function on your computer

Since you have scanned the system using the SFC command, the issue has not been resolved

I think,If the above steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to perform a system restore or reinstall Windows.

How to perform repair upgrade in Windows
