What is the fate of Windows 10 Insider Preview 21390.2025 - Windows 10 Feature Experience Pack 321.13302.10.3?

I have been a Windows Insider Preview participant on the Dev Channel since early 2015. I am presently running the "Subject" version on three of my computers. As these machines are not Windows 11 compliant on minimums I see no reason to "dabble" in the Windows 11 Preview experience if I can not run it permanently on these systems. Worth noting is the fact that this version expires on 10/31/2021. What happens then? From what I have been able to find online all roads lead to "clean install of Windows 10" and in doing so nothing in the way of apps or programs can be saved, personal files only with an appropriate backup. This to me is a horrible send off for those of us who have been participants in the Insider Preview Experience. I find it hard to believe that these Insider Previews cannot be re-tuned and/or updated to a straight Windows 10 experience, be that Pro or Home versions.

I will post the question again; What happens if we ride it out on our existing Insider Previews and 10/31/2021 comes and goes?

How is this what happened? None of us asked for this build knowing we'd get stuck and be unable to update to ANYTHING. It was not always clear that Windows 11 was not going to work on my machine, and this update installed on it's own as I've always been getting Insider Builds and only turned them off after this update and after it became clear Win11 was either going to be a dead end or just impossible on my admittedly aging Haswell-based system.

So now I guess we just put up with dialogues haunting us about a build that "is about to expire" on a Halloween that's long past until I build a whole new computer and just get Windows 11?

Thanks for replying, I really appreciate it. I've always been curious about "end of life" situations and how the PC reacts to it. What you did was a good move. And, if you're like me, join the Insider Preview builds and you will get the latest on 21H2 19044. They are coming out now quite often. Glad to hear you back things up and imagine you reinstalled them afterwards.

Microsoft says my CPU does not meet the standards. It's an i5 Core 7200 U, an early 2017 HP ENVY. It meets everything else. I split my partition to set aside enough room to install Win 11 and am now running it there. Seems to work pretty well with no problems. I will test it for a few weeks and see how it performs.

    Good luck and thanks again

Keep us informed how it goes later on, after it expires. I, for one, am curious to know. I was on 21390 up until after Win 11 came out because of the expiration date 31 Oct. 2021. I can't run Win 11 on this PC, so the closest I can get to Insider builds is 21H2 19044.xxx.

Good luck and keep us informed!

It doesn't work when i try to install it manually

    Hello David,

You could never go back versions without clean installing. You will have to backup your important files, create a bootable flash to go to 19044.xxx

    Regards,

    You can't install 19044 manually.

In order to go backwards you have to do

a clean install using the ISO for 19044.
