When I open Microsoft Edge, it says This page is having a problem and this error message appears: Error code: STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH.

How do I fix this?

    Error code: STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH.

The steps suggested by Nikhar will most probably work, but only because what they do is disable an important security feature. Error messages exist to tell you that something's wrong. If you see a red light flashing on the dashboard of your car, you can stop it by removing the bulb. You'll understand that that's not really wise.

The usual reason for this error is that there is third-party (i.e. non-Microsoft) security software - anti-virus, for example - running on the computer, and this software is out of date. The first thing to check, therefore, is whether there is any update available for whatever software it is - Norton, McAfee or Avast, for example. Running an out-of-date anti-virus program on your computer is worse than having no anti-virus at all, because you imagine it's keeping you safe when in fact it may be leaving the computer vulnerable to infection.

If this isn't the case, then you'll have to do a bit of troubleshooting to find the culprit: a program not trusted, trying to infiltrate itself into Edge. Try updating the security software first, making sure to restart the computer after doing so. Then we can proceed with troubleshooting if that doesn't help.

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you receive an error, ‘STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH’ when opening Microsoft Edge. I’ll certainly assist you with the issue.

    However, please let us know:

    • What is the version of Microsoft Edge that is currently installed on your computer?
    • Is the computer connected to any Organization’s network?

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned below and see if that helps:

    1. Press Windows logo key + R, to open Run dialog box.
    2. Type/paste the following command and click on OK: msedge.exe --disable-features=RendererCodeIntegrity
    3. This should open new Microsoft Edge window, try accessing webpage and see if that helps.

If this doesn’t help, we can try changing registry settings and check.

Note: Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

Refer the article to Create a system restore point.

    1. Close Microsoft Edge.
    2. Type command prompt in the search bar on the Taskbar.
    3. Right click on the command prompt icon and select Run as administrator.
    4. Type or paste the command and hit enter: REG ADD “HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Edge” /v RendererCodeIntegrityEnabled /t REG_DWORD /d 0
    5. Restart Microsoft Edge.

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards,

After the last update (H02) I had the same problem. After updating the registry with mentioned command it was okay again. I don't know what program is the one that implies this but I can open edge again.

    Regards, Frans
