Microsoft Edge Says Managed By Your Organization, But it Is Not

My system update added Microsoft Edge as the browser and in the drop down to the right it says "Managed by Your Organization". When I click on that the only item referenced is Web Threat Shield. Is the virus protection causing this message, or could it be possible that my company does have access to my computer?

Hi Chris

Do you have Webroot Security installed on your PC, if so, that 'Web Threat Shield' is part of that Webroot security suite and that is causing your problems . . .

I have this problem  ... Any idea what I can do to fix this?

It's not a problem, and there's probably nothing to fix! There are many settings for Edge that can be set by Group Policy (GP); this is used by employers and organizations' IT departments, for example to prevent unwise changes to the browser settings. However, GP can also be used by the computer's owner/administrator or by installed programs. The message you see is only informing (or reminding) you that there are policies in force, and by following the link to edge://policy, you'll see which ones. Each entry on that page contains a link to the documentation for the policy concerned so you can examine it in detail.

Only if you don't recognize the options shown there do you have anything to worry about. If you don't understand the entries on the Policy page, post back with details and we can find out for you.

Here's my solution I posted on this page:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftedge/forum/all/new-edge-your-browser-is-managed-by-your/8897c767-5a92-4cf2-b152-82a592fa9f08?LastReply=true#LastReply

I have a solution that worked for me.  Here it is step by step.

    1...Open registry editor

2....Go to this address in the registry editor:

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Policies\Microsoft\Edge\ExtensionInstallForcelist

    3...Delete ExtensionInstallForcelist

    4...Close the registry editor.

5...Close the browser for a minute.  This will uninstall the Webroot Web Threat Shield extension. .

Problem solved.  It worked for me, anyway.  I hope it works for all of you.

Whatever you do, DON'T reinstall the Webroot Web Threat Shield extension or you'll have to do all this again.  I know because I tried reinstalling it to see what would happen.

I've discovered that the extension will come back after a day or 2 even if you don't reinstall it.

Each time it does come back, just repeat this process.

    Bye For Now.

    Hi Dave,

I do have the Webroot installed. I don’t have a problem per se. I just wanted to understand if my company was somehow managing aspects of my system. Sounds like having webroot installed is the reason for the message.

    Thank you for your help.

    Chris
