why cant I have brave as my browser and duck duck go as my search engine?

My ability to use brave and duck duck go is limited I dont understand why I cant download these preferences? What is the harm in this?  Removing out of S mode makes no sense to me. Please explain

    is the device actually in S-mode?

    to check go to settings -> system -> about

    under windows specifications, is s- mode mentioned.

    in S-mode you can only install apps from the microsoft store, you can only use microsoft browsers and Bing search engine.

    this is so that microsoft can be sure it is free from malware and thus improves security.

    it does not mean that Brave or DuckDuckGo is in any way dangerous, it is just that it cannot be confirmed by microsoft as safe.

    to use a different browser or search engine, your only option is to switch out of S- mode.

    if you switch out of s- mode, you can install the new browser then go to settings-> app s-> apps & features

    under "choose where to get apps" select "microsoft store only" this will offer a some of the security that S-Mode offers
