New Edge: "Your browser is managed by your organization"

I just (06-08-2020) installed the latest Windows release and updated to the new Edge as well. When I went to change settings in the Edge browser, I noticed that my browser is all of a sudden managed by "your organization". Well, my organization is me!

Can anyone explain why I see the message "Your browser is managed by your organization" when trying to adjust settings? I did not give any permission for anyone to "manage my organization." I had this problem with Google Chrome and wound up deleting the browser altogether.

Thanks in advance

I was able to remove this by opening my Webroot SecureAnywhere Advanced Settings. Like others have said, this is something that blocks websites Webroot has identified as malicious but the steps below should remove the things in Edge you're seeing.

  1. Open the Webroot security program.
  2. Click the Advanced Settings Cog at the top right.
  3. Click Firewall / Web Shield at the left hand side.
  4. Uncheck "Activate Browser Extensions"
  5. Save
  6. Close and reopen Edge and the Extension is gone and so are those policies/management messages.

Here's a screenshot of the setting unchecked. I hope this helps!

Sounds like you used one of those tools to modify Windows 10 to not track you, O&O ShutUp10 comes to mind as when you use a tool like that it modifies the registry and Windows then gives you the message you mention (I've done this so I've personally seen this). The only way I was able to get rid of the message was to undo all the changes I had O&O do.

Where's the like button when you need one?! :D

This is definitely a possibility! Our intention with this messaging is to keep it succinct and inform the end user that "some external entity" has configured the browser in a way that's not "out of the box" from Microsoft/Microsoft Edge!

We debated internally when we were working on the exact string - and ended up leaving it this way. Other than organizations pushing policies, the only other genuine use case should be the user doing something intentionally to cause this to happen. Everything else is malicious IMHO.

We are open to suggestions on how we can make this messaging more user-friendly. The "Managed by your organization" note at the bottom of the More (...) menu in the nav bar can be clicked to lead you to edge://management page, which in addition to pointing to edge://policy page, *may* provide more info on the situation.

Not sure how tricky this is to implement, but if we had a "click here to learn more" or some such link with the managed message at the top of the edge:// pages too, which lead you to edge://management and edge://policy pages - would that make you feel better about this situation?

I have a solution that worked for me.  Here it is step by step.

    1...Open registry editor

2....Go to this address in the registry editor:

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Policies\Microsoft\Edge\ExtensionInstallForcelist

    3...Delete ExtensionInstallForcelist

    4...Close the registry editor.

5...Close the browser for a minute.  This will uninstall the Webroot Web Threat Shield extension. .

Problem solved.  It worked for me, anyway.  I hope it works for all of you.

Whatever you do**,** DON'T reinstall the Webroot Web Threat Shield extension or you'll have to do all this again.  I know because I tried reinstalling it to see what would happen.

I've discovered that the extension will come back after a day or 2 even if you don't reinstall it.

Each time it does come back, just repeat this process.

    Bye For Now.

This forum needs a like button! Thanks for pointing this out, I have been banging my head for a long time due to this problem. (I used this software during my privacy and data paranoia phase😂)
