I have an older, Windows 7, work computer at home now for which I no longer have the login password or email. How do I find the proper domain name\domain user name in order to create a new login using my Microsoft account? Thank you.

Holly

Hi HN. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 year Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator. If you will work with me I will be here to help until the issue is resolved.

A Domain is from the workplace, nor for Home use. If it's a retail license then you can set up a new MS or Local Account on the PC and use it by signing into your local network.

What is the Activation Status and Edition showing at the top of the page at Settings > Update & Security > Activation?

If it's Enterprise then you'll need to reinstall Home or Pro version for Home Use. Enterprise is only a business version that's activated by a business' on-site servers and cannot be activated by retail license means.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you will wait to choose if I resolved your problem, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Holly, I'm still waiting for the answers to the questions I asked in my first post so I can help you better.

There's no point in creating a new User account if you have Enterprise or another volume license version that can't be licensed by consumers. That's why I carefully asked the questions I need to know to advise you fully.

I'm not sure why you're trying to sign into a server if you're not part of an organization which uses that server. Can we get back to resolving your problem by focusing on the steps in my first post?  I'm waiting here to help you.

    HI Greg,

I would be great if you could help me get onto this computer with me a new MS or Local Account.  The only promising page that I can access, says what I indicated in my question. It also says that I can log onto the computer not a domain by typing in a bunch of numbers they give me with \local user name. I got to the part about signing in with a my Microsoft account and a temporary password (my actual password does not work on it) which gives me an error message that there are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request. So how do I get to a server when I cannot open anything past this page?  Thank you, Holly
