Managing tabs, address bar, and search settings in Edge on Windows 10
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
I have run into this issue multiple times. All of the sudden a setting flips and now every time I open a link it opens in a new tab. I find this incredibly annoying. I would like links to open in the same tab that I clicked them from. When this has happened before I have reset my browser to default settings since there is seemingly no option (I'm sure there is I just can't find it). I don't want to have to keep resetting my browser to default settings. Where is the setting to switch back to staying in same tab when opening link.

Bing is a Search engine, not a browser, so has nothing to do with this question.
The question is, why is it that in OWA for Office 365 when I open Outlook then click on Calendar it opens a new tab?
Then I click on email icon to go back to email, and it opens another new tab, and so on.
Within 5 minutes a User can have 20, 30 open tabs and half are the same.
We tested this and it happens in Chrome, Edge (New Edge), Firefox.
This did not happen a few days ago.
Users are not happy about this being forced upon them with no option to revert back.
Also on a Windows machine, changing the option in Internet Options >Tabs > Open links from other programs in the current tab or window, does nothing to affect this.
Hi Kyle,
If you're using Bing, there is a new toggle that controls this behavior!
You should be able to turn the toggle off and return to the previous behavior.
You can also check your settings for Bing by searching then going to the menu in the top right and selecting More under Settings. The Results area will have options to open all links in a new tab or to open news specifically in a new tab.
I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any questions! =)

The problem is that the option to disable this extremely annoying feature is available only on the "bing" interface. And "bing" is a bad search engine, so it's one of the first things to change.
Hi Kyle,
My name is Trust. Am a fellow Microsoft user.
Some links are coded to open in the current tab while others open in a new tab. To take control of this behavior, press Ctrl when you click a link to stay on your current page while opening the link in a new tab in the background. Likewise, use Ctrl-Shift-click to open link in new tab and switch to it. Also, Shift-click to open a link in a new window.
If you use a mouse, click the mouse wheel or middle mouse button to open a link in a new tab. And Shift-middle click opens a link in a new window.
Hope this helps,
Regards
It does not work at all. After I disabled it in the setting and in the search result page in bing, ms edge continues to open link in new tab.
