Youtube Audio randomly cuts out for few seconds then continues to play

Hi,

I have in recent months run into a mildly annoying issue with Youtube. I had recently switched from Google Chrome to the new Edge Chromium version 83.0.478.54. I have encountered this problem in Google Chrome as well, and after switching to Edge I am still experiencing the same issue.

When playing a Youtube video, occasionally the audio will cut out for 3-5 seconds, but the video will keep playing. Then after 3-5 second the video will stop seemingly waiting for the audio to catch up, then they'll both continue playing as if nothing has happened.

I do not experience this with other audio sources, only Youtube. Please help.

I’m having similar trouble. YouTube audio is fine on my phone but cuts out when I watch on my tv.  Last week it worked fine on tv. I’ve reset everything and it still cuts out.

I too am having this problem on my Windows 10 Pro x64 PC infrequently. Fully patched, latest drivers, etc. (Intel 8700, Gigabyte Z series motherboard, RTX 2080 ti, 32 GB RAM.) The issue is highly intermittent, but once it starts in a video will continue in that video; the next video might be fine. It appears to be browser-independent, happening both in Edge and Chrome. The problem has persisted for over a month despite reboots. This is on a workstation in a domain running Windows Server Essentials 2016. I don't currently have another workstation on the LAN.

The dropouts happen if I use my headphones (Astro A50) or monitor speakers, but I use my headphones most of the time.

Of possible interest in the System event log are Event IDs 7040 where Service Control Manager is changing the start type of BITS. e.g.

The start type of the Background Intelligent Transfer Service service was changed from auto start to demand start.

And Windows changes it back and forth frequently (3 times in 12 minutes). But while they appear to be co-incident with recent dropouts I did not note the times of the dropouts so cannot say that it is more than coincidence.

Another possible coincidence is that it seems to happen more when my PC has been on for an extended period of time. I typically leave my PC on 24/7, only rebooting when it is needed for a patch. Right now uptime is 10 days. But I have had dropouts when the PC has been recently rebooted. Restarting Chrome or Edge doesn't resolve the issue either.

Perhaps the 22 others who are having this issue may like to check for similarities?

The trouble is when I watch YouTube on my LG OLED tv. Not “YouTube Tv” but rather plain YouTube. It works fine on our older LG tv and on all computers, tablets and phones. I’m beginning to think it’s directly related to the LG model.

I've been having this issue recently, too.

    Happens ONLY on YouTube

    Happens with Edge or Chrome

First, the sound drops out, and video continues

Turning the sound up or down makes it come back for a moment,

Then it usually hangs and buffers.

A YouTube message will sometimes pop up, saying "Are you having issues?", etc., trying to blame it on the internet connection, but that's a lie, because other video services are working fine.

I've tried restarting, etc. yada yada yada --it's NOT hardware.

    Hi folks,

Looks like this thread is getting a lot of views recently, so if anyone still running into this could comment and confirm their Microsoft Edge version and Windows build/version, the team would like to dig in to what's going on with your help.

    Thanks!

    -Alex
