He hit the nail on the head when he said it appeared after he uninstalled Chrome.   This is exactly the trigger.   None of the solutions posted here, or in any other thread about this issue come close to working or being relevant in any way.

    Process to recreate issue:

    • Install Google Chrome.
    • Uninstall Google Chrome.

The second that Google Chrome is removed, this ridiculous Microsoft pop-up appears:

This window sits on top of all other windows and you are unable to interact with it in any way at all.   Doesn't even show up in task manager.

The primary issue here is that this window shouldn't exist at all.  It needs to be removed.

It would be great if someone was able to actually look into this issue properly.

    Thank you.

Hi and thanks for reaching out. My name is William, I’m an Independent Advisor. I'll be happy to help you out today.

Try the following: Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Default app > under Web browser, select your default browser of choice or, if already set, change it something else and change it back.

Hey mate. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Microsoft are useless.

I ended up reimaging my machine to resolve this.

    Hope you have better luck.

Under Default apps near the bottom right part of the panel > select Choose default apps by protocol > locate HTTP and confirm that it is pointing to your browser. Same goes for HTTPS.
