Instead of changing the orientation when you before printing something, did you try changing the default orientation on the printer itself in the Control Panel?

    1. Right click the Start menu and select Run
    2. Type Control and press Enter
    3. Click Devices and Printers
    4. Right click your printer and select Printer properties
    5. Click Preferences
    6. Change the orientation to Portrait

Give a try now! Hope it works, let me know.

I was able to fix this issue by going into page setup on printer and changing setting from automatically select paper tray to "main tray"   for both 1st page and all pages.    It worked.    Thanks.

Hi all,   I just had the same issue between my HP laptop and HP printer using Microsoft  Word.    All settings on printer and document and print previews are showing Portrait,  but it ends up printing landscape.   I will try removing printer and reinstalling,   but this just happened and has not happened before.

I've seen a number of posts about a Brother printer that starts printing only in landscape following a Windows 10 update (from 2020). I experienced the same problem printing pdfs, Word docs or others. Changing settings and re-booting did not help.

What I did was I reinstalled the printer drivers/software from the Brother site. I can't tell if the Windows update removed the Brother driver, or the Microsoft IPP Class Driver Windows was using for the printer was updated and now has a bug for Brother printers, but re-installing the manufacturer's printer software made a Brother printer driver available in the printer properties window. Selecting that driver has solver the landscape vs. portrait printing issue for me.

Problem just started, but I've seen it before and was able to work thru it, but not this time.  I did totally uninstall and re-install.

I don't know what you mean by which app did I use.  I tried on Edge, Chrome and

    Friefox browser though.  Same result.
