Microsoft Edge Version 87.0.664.47 (Official build) with new favourites pinnable drop down takes forever to bring up first page/allow typing in URL

One of my machines got 87 with the new favourites handler and now suffers with really really long time between startup and allowing typing in the URL bar. The others got 87 without the new favourites handler and work fine.

Is this a common issue?

Are Microsoft fixing it?

    Hello TheAndyMac,welcome to the Microsoft community, my name is Luiz Cruz, an independent consultant and I would be happy to help you.

    I understand that you are experiencing crashes with Microsoft Edge.

    Initially I suggest the steps below to solve the problem:

    Method 1

    Clean up temporary files.

    Temporary files influence the performance of your computer, so the importance of cleaning them.

    Press the Windows + R keys, type temp, press OK, select all files and contained in the folder and press the Delete key.

    Press the Windows + R keys, type %temp%, press OK, select all files and contained in the folder and press the Delete key.

    Press the Windows + R keys, type Prefetch, press OK, select all files and contained in the folder and press the Delete key.

    Note: You will not be able to delete some files that will be running, the window will appear stating that the file cannot be deleted, click ignore that file and continue cleaning the folder.

    Method 2

    Clean boot.

    Clean boot is used to determine if a background program is interfering with the system.

    Press the Windows + R keys, type msconfig and click OK;

    In the System Configuration window click on the services tab;

    At the bottom of the screen check the Hide all Microsoft services box and click Disable all;

    Now click on the Programs Startup tab and click on Open Task Manager;

    In the task manager window on the startup tab, disable all non-Microsoft programs, close the task manager and click ok on system configuration and restart the computer if requested.

    NOTE: This procedure disables all third party services and programs. You can later, if the problem is solved in this way, selectively enable the programs and services that will start with Windows, instead of keeping all disabled. If the problem returns after activating the startup of a specific service or program, the problem is exactly in the startup of this software and it is recommended to remove it.

    If the behavior continues, perform the next procedure.

    Method 3

    Run Dism and Scannow repair tools.

    These are diagnostic tools and assist in repairing the system image.

    Press the Windows + X keys, select Command Prompt (Admin), copy and paste the commands below and press enter after each command.

    Sfc /ScanNow

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

    Test and see if the behavior is repeated, if the behavior continues, perform the next procedure.

    1. Press the Windows + R keys and type inetcpl.cpl;
    2. Select the “Advanced” tab and check the option “Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering”;
    3. Click “Apply” and “OK”;
    4. Close and open it again;

    I hope I helped, see you soon!

    Thanks

    I'd already done all that.

    After all this all, I did try a RESET Edge (was worried I'd lose too much in terms of settings, but just went with it anyway) and that seems to have cleared it up - interested why it just started after the update.

    And the positive - the reset option is pretty good at not touching important stuff. The only things I had to do was some allowed third party cookie settings...
