Can't reset ipconfig

For the last month or so I have been trying to solve my wifi speed problem. Various members of the forum have made suggestions which I have tried to no avail.

One on the forum (Wi-Fi speed keeps dropping every few seconds) which shows promise, was answered by Lester BernardReyes it seems to match my problem exactly. In it he suggests:

Press Windows Key + X.

Click on Command prompt (Admin).

Type the following commands, and hit Enter after each command:

netsh int tcp set heuristics disabled

netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

netsh int tcp set global rss=enabled

netsh winsock reset and press Enter

netsh int ip reset and press Enter

ipconfig /release and press Enter

ipconfig /renew and press Enter

ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter

It has improved my speed from 10M to 15M but when I reach the line

ipconfig /renew and press Enter it can’t find what it’s looking for.

I have included a screen dump of the message.

Help please what am I doing wrong?

George

Thank you for your clarification, as you might have gathered, I don't know what I'm doing apart from the fact that my wifi is working at a fraction off it's normal speed, so I will work my way through the various suggestions over the next few weeks.

    Hi GeorgeHumphries,

Apologies if the reset didn't solve your issue. I suggest that you proceed with the other methods especially the repair install. In case it didn't work, you may also look into the Windows 10 recovery options(see "Restore from a system restore point" or "Reset your PC"): https://support.microsoft.com/help/12415/window...

Note: ensure to have a backup of your files

If it will still take you a couple of weeks to respond, kindly raise a new query and provide the steps that you have already performed.

Please let me know how it goes. Thank you.

I cannot reset the IPconfig. for an unknown reason

Your screenshot shows that the IP configuration couldn't be renewed for the Ethernet connection, because its DHCP server couldn't be contacted. Unless there is an Ethernet cable connecting the computer to the router, there's no way the connection can be managed. The config for the wireless connection (the one you're not happy about) looks to have been renewed successfully.

Thanks for replying so quickly, in initial response to your questions:

    1. I have a laptop physically in the same position as my tower and it works perfectly over the wifi.
    2. Ran a reset but it made no difference, still have a problem. At the moment as I explained in my query I cannot reset the IPconfig. for an unknown reason

I will slowly work my way through the suggestions. (it will take a couple of weeks.)

Is there any way of flagging my new responses on this query, or do I have to keep raising a new query after a few days to attract attention again.

Good day! I'm Raniel, a Microsoft user like you. I understand your frustration regarding this issue and I'll do my best to help.

Just to clarify, do you also encounter the WiFi speed issue with your other devices? Can you also run the commands via safe mode?. Please see the steps under "From the sign-in screen": https://support.microsoft.com/help/12376/window...

Aside from clearing your DNS cache, another option is to perform a network reset:

    1. Go to Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Status
    2. On the right pane of the Window, look for "Network Reset" and click on it, then follow the procedure

You may also perform a clean boot and check if you'll encounter the same issue: https://support.microsoft.com/help/929135/how-t...

Note: Temporarily disable your firewall/antivirus, then check again

However, if the issue persist, kindly perform a repair install of your Windows which fixes the broken system files on your machine. Here is a guide: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/16397-repai...

There should be no worries in performing it since you will select the option to keep your files during the process.

I hope this helps. Good luck!
