Brand new Lenovo Ideapad 3, incredibly slow internet. How can I fix this?

Hello there,

I recently bought the Lenovo Ideapad 3. It has the Ryzen 7 4000 series cpu with 8GB Ram on Windows 10.

I connected the laptop to my router, and it shows that the WiFi connection is strong. I have a 5mb ADSL line, and a router with WiFi capability.
I noticed that the internet speed while attempting to download the Lenovo Migration Assistant (to migrate the data from my desktop to the laptop), was so slow that literally nothing happened. Needless to say I stopped the download.
I attempted to open speedtest.net and nothing happened either. What I also noticed was that when I turn on the laptop, my internet on all my devices (desktop pc and cellphone), drop to the point where it either states I have no internet, or it is so slow that it can't be used.
I attempted to install Google Chrome, just to see if it wasn't maybe a Microsoft Edge browser issue, but it took 5 minutes to download the 1.2mb file and when attempting to install Chrome, it tells me it will take 12 hours to download.

Hope someone can advice me on how I can fix this issue. It would be highly appreciated.

    Good afternoon Carlo,

First of all, yes, I did run the speed test on the other desktop pc's and they run perfectly once the laptop is turned off.
So it is definitely not my internet connection.

I downloaded and installed the driver as instructed thank you.

But I have to confess, I attempted many things and looked everywhere except in task manager to see if I have any issues there.
What I saw is that Service Host : Network Service is constantly downloading system files. In the mean time I attempted to make my connection a metered one, in order to allow the usage of the internet on other devices, but that did not even slow it down whatsoever.
I turned of Delivery Optimisation as well, and that also had no impact.

I am quite perplexed to what else I can try to at least lower the speeds to increase bandwidth allocation to the other devices. I thought of leaving it to see if it stops downloading at some point, but so far it seems like there is no end to it.

I am sorry for not realising sooner that this is possibly the culprit. Because you have been so helpful, and I feel like I have wasted your time with all you did for me so far. So please accept my humble apology.

    Have a great day,
    Lijojo.

    Good Day Lijojo,

My name is Carlo, I'm an Independent Advisor and community member like you.

I am also using Windows 10 pc. Let us work together to sort this out.

First, you need to check the speed of your internet using other device for us to check if the issue is with the computer or the internet speed itself.

Go to this link in your phone or other computer and check the speed.

    https://www.speedtest.net/

If you are seeing the same result of internet speed on your other devices and your computer means the issue is with your internet connection, you need to reach out to your Internet Service Provider and have them check the connection.

If you are getting low internet speed on your computer only , proceed with the steps below.

    -Press Windows key + X

    -Go to Settings

    -Click Update and Security

    -Click Troubleshooter then Additional troubleshooter.

-Look for Internet Connection and run the troubleshooter.

Once done proceed with these steps.

    -Press Windows key + X

    -Go to Device Manager

    -Expand the Network Adapters

-Look for the Wireless driver that was installed

    -Right click and Update

-Look for "Browse my computer for driver

-Let me pick drivers available drivers

-Choose an old driver and use it.

    Reset Network Settings

    Open Settings.

    Click on Network & Internet.

    Click on Status.

Under the "Change your network settings" section, click the Network reset option.

    Click the Reset now button.

    Click the Yes button.

-Click Start, type CMD and run as administrator

-Copy and paste each of the commands below and hit enter.

    netsh int ip reset

    netsh advfirewall reset

    netsh winsock reset

    ipconfig / flushdns

    ipconfig / release

    ipconfig / renew

Once you entered all those commands restart your computer and check the connection speed.

If issue persist, let's download the updated driver

What is the exact model of your computer?

To check the system model proceed with these steps.

    -Press Windows key + R

    -Type msinfo32 and hit enter.

-Look for the System Model and post it here.

If you are using a custom built pc look for Baseboard version and Baseboard product and post it here.

I hope the information above helps. Please let me know how it goes.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

    Sincerely,

    Carlo T.

    Good Day Lijojo,

I appreciate your time getting back to this thread, how about on the other device, have you tried to run a speedtest using the link I posted on other devices to check the internet speed? If it does the same on other devices means this issue is with your internet connection reach out to your internet service provider and have them check the connection.

For the meantime proceed with these steps. go to this link below and download the driver.

    https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/ur...

Once downloaded save it in your desktop , don't install it yet.

    -Press Windows key + X

    -Go to Device Manager

    -Expand the Network Adapters

-Look for the Wireless driver that was installed

    -Right click and Uninstall

Once uninstalled, go now to your desktop and install the driver your downloaded and restart your computer and check the connection.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

    Sincerely,

    Carlo T.

    Hello Carlo TJ

First of all I want to express my gratitude for taking time to help me and for giving such easy to follow and detailed instructions.
I followed them all exactly as mentioned, but sadly the problem still persists.
I managed to run speedtest.net on the laptop, and there are clear ping and download problems, and wasn't even able to do an upload reading as it gave an error.

I bought the laptop, and asked the company to add an ssd. So I will give both the system model and baseboard version and product numbers in case it is needed.

    System Model : 81W4
    Baseboard Product : LNVNB161216
    Baseboard Version : SDK0T76447WIN

Thanks for your assistance with this.
    Have a great day.
