Why does Microsoft Edge hijack my PDF Viewer?

Hey Microsoft, you're edge pdf viewer is garbage. Please send a windows update that removes it from everyone's computer everywhere. It's so obnoxiously irritating. Never prints anything correctly, can't edit pdfs appropriately, and for some unknown reason(other than your attempt at monopolizing software) It keeps resetting itself as my default pdf viewer. If I wanted to open pdfs in a garbage format, I'd be super happy every half hour when your dumpster fire program hijacks my default viewer. But seeing as that's not my objective, I would much rather prefer software that doesn't belong in a child's diaper.

    Hi,

    I'm Pedro A, Independent Advisor

There is a modification in the windows registry to prevent PDF files from being opened by default in the web browser.

    Try the following procedure:

Hit the Win+R keys and type Regedit

In the left panel access the following key through this path

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppModel\Repository\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_44.19041.1266.0_neutral__8wekyb3d8bbwe\MicrosoftEdge\Capabilities\FileAssociations

(It is possible that the version number on your windows is different, so where is the number "44.19041.1266.0" in this example it may be in your windows registry)

Note in the box on the right the Prog-IDs, which have been assigned to the types.pdf, htm and html files.

    (example: something like

    .pdf REG_SZ AppXd4nrz8ff68srnhf9t5a8sbjyar1cr723)

Now look for the code "AppXd4nrz8ff68srnhf9t5a8sbjyar1cr723"

    on the following path

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\AppXd4nrz8ff68srnhf9t5a8sbjyar1cr723

In the right pane, create a string value (REG_SZ) called "NoOpenWith" (no quotes)

Then close Regedit and set your system's default pdf editor again.

Do a test and see if the issue is resolved
