Launching Microsoft Edge on Windows 10
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
Up until yesterday I had my settings such that each time I single left clicked on a link it would open in a new window, not in a new tab. Today I no longer have that option. I have gone into the settings to see where the defaults are and tried to change them but I cant find anywhere to change this.
And no, I dont want to have to right click each time and select open in new window, or have to click Control and whatever key.
I just want my defaults to work the same way they did yesterday.
How do I have the default settings go back to opening in a new window, not a new tab?

Confirmed with my IS department, that suggested fix for reloading in IE mode doesnt work for us.
I guess I'm stuck with having to right click and manually open in new windows each time.
Again, its a small thing, it just sucks that a feature that was once there isnt anymore.

Sorry, did not access my e mail or see your response till just now.
Don't know what browser I was running before. This is my work computer and software is controlled by our internal IS department.
No, I did not do any updates recently. My computer is plugged into a power bar, I accidentally hit the button on power bar with my foot and forced the computer to shut off. When I turned it back on, that change took effect immediately.
I have contacted my IS department to see if any of the above suggested changes will create any problems so will wait till they respond before attempting the suggestion above. I will post back if the suggested change works for me and can be done.
That being said, while I do appreciate the efforts of you contacting me and offering some suggestions, overall, it's just disappointing that this functionality was lost.
Its sad, but not uncommon, when software is "upgraded" this type of thing happens.
I dont know anything about writing software, I just know that as a user, its frustrating when tools you are used to having available are taken away.

Hello John M_043,
Welcome to Microsoft Community.
I understand that you want to be able to click a link in the Edge browser to open a new window instead of opening it in a new tab.
I tested it on the latest Edge browser, and Edge browser itself does not have this feature.
What was the original Edge browser you used originally? Have you updated Edge browser recently or used any plug-in to achieve this function.
Also, if you turn on "Reload in Internet Explorer mode" in Edge browser may achieve this function, you can try it.
"
4.On the page where the prompt pops up, place the ”Open this page in Compatibility view“ and ”Open this page in Internet Explorer mode next time“ set to ”On“,then click ”Done“
If the above method is not the effect you want to achieve, Microsoft attaches great importance to user experience, you can submit your ideas and suggestions through the Feedback Hub, the development team will review regularly, and every user's feedback may be noticed.
Please share the feedback link after submitting, I will vote for you. You can also share with your friends and family members, more votes will make the development team notice more quickly.
If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.
