Hello, I'm Louie, and I'm happy to help you today. Hope you're doing well and safe there. I understand you wish to enable IE mode on Microsoft Edge.
To enable IE mode on Edge, use these steps:
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Click the Settings and More (ellipsis) button on the top-right corner.
- Select the Settings option.
- Click on Default browser.
- Under the “Internet Explorer compatibility” section, turn on the “Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode” toggle switch to enable IE mode in Edge.
- Click the Restart button.
Once you complete the steps, when sites require Internet Explorer, you can use Microsoft Edge to reload the page using IE mode.
After the IE Mode is enabled, you need to reload a page with the compatibility mode manually.
To open an incompatible website with IE Mode on Edge, use these steps:
- Open Microsoft Edge
- Click the Settings and More (ellipsis) button on the top-right corner.
- Select the More tools submenu and choose the “Reload in Internet Explorer mode” option.
After you complete the steps, the website should reload in compatibility mode. If the feature is not enabled, the option won’t be available in the menu.

Hi Louie,
I have already tried with this solution. I mean that when I add pages into internet explorer modes in Microsoft Edge, these pages will open in internet explorer mode for 30 days from the date I add the pages. How can I add pages to open in internet explorer mode forever without expiration or without add manually every month?
Thank you.
This might help. The process to enable IE mode in Edge is explained in detail here: Setup IE Mode in Edge to open legacy websites
That article does not answer the question. It has a section erroneously titled "Permanently Open a Certain website in IE Mode" but the instructions in that section are just the standard steps to add a site to the IE Mode list for 30 days.
To have a site open in IE Mode "forever" (or, at least a very long time) can be done in two ways: 1) if your computers are centrally managed via GPOs, an enterprise site list can be used, 2) you can use a script I wrote to set the expiry date for IE Mode sites to be far in the future.
Both options are explained in detail at the link I provided in my earlier answer.
Hello Lei,
I may have limited information regarding this matter. It may be best if I release your question to other advisors so they can take a look at it and let them share some other ways that can fix the issue.
You take care and keep safe always.

Hi Lei,
I am Sumit here to assist you with this question.
IE Mode in Edge is not a long term solution - this is just a workaround until the developer adds support for modern browsers like Edge and Chrome. I am afraid you cannot add sites in it forever, as this is by design.
Hope that makes sense and helps.
