Windows 7 and IE mode

Hi,

We still have some computers running Windows 7 with IE11 for a few ancient/antique apps.

The replacement of these computers is already planned.

Awaiting new computers delivery, we found that Edge Chromium IE Mode could be a temporary workaround.

So, can we use Edge Chromium IE Mode on Windows 7 without ESU ?

Regards,

Chris

    Hi Chris,

I understand your question now, that is correct, you would need ESU to be able to continue to use IE Mode, and ESU will also lapse at the end oof 2022, so even if you do need to sign up for ESU, that will not last long.

    Tahnks Dave,

    We're know that, and it's works !

    Our problem is licensing.

You may have guess that we're not English natives.
We have a problem with this sentence :

"In order for IE mode to be supported on these operating systems the devices will need to have the Extended Security Updates for Windows 7." from this page https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/edge-ie-mode

The french version is not very explicit too.
Our questionnaing is "Do Edge IE Mode on Windows 7 require ESU ?"

    Thanks

    Hi Chris,

The Edge IE Mode will work on Windows 7 provided you have SP1 and KB4507437 or later; or KB4511872 or later installed on the PC.

    Thanks Dave,

We already use Edge IE Mode on our Win10s.
It would be a smooth transtition for the last Windows 7 users.

    Hi Chris,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Microsoft are not removing Internet Explorer from Windows 7 in June, it will remain in that operating system, it is only being removed form the newer versions of Windows, so, you will not need to worry about the older Windows 7 devices.
