Printer Default in Edge

Anonymous

When printing from Edge the print window shows the printer selected as "Save as PDF".  I can change it to the preferred printer, but after closing the browser, it does not keep the preferred printer selected upon reopen.

I checked the printer settings within Edge and it does show the preferred printer as the default printer, but it never populates as the default printer, only the "Save as PDF".

Any thoughts on how to get Edge to recognize the Windows default printer and/or keep it as the last printer used?

Thank you!

Since upgrading Edge recently, I have the same problem...  The first time I select to print something from Edge, it pops open a window with "Save to PDF" selected for the printer.

I ALREADY HAVE SET MY WINDOWS DEFAULT PRINTER AND IT IS NOT - EMPHASIS IS NOT "Save to PDF."  I am sure others will confirm this, but have not stated it this way.

Now, once, I have changed the printer to the actual Windows default printer (or other printer of choice for the moment), Edge generally continue to remember it as long as I am continuing in the same work session.  But, if the computer goes to sleep, when it wakes up, within Edge you start all over again with "Save to PDF" as the default printer.

Edge is CLEARLY not using the Windows default settings.  STOP DIRECTING PEOPLE to look at the Windows default printer.  THAT IS NOT THE PROBLEM.  I cannot find a setting in Edge to change this.  Somewhere, there has to be a way to correct this.

    It is Extremely frustrating!!!

    Hi,

I had a little different Problem, but i think my Resolution could help others.

Edge (Chromium Version) seems to look for the last used Printer in a File called "Preferences", yes without an ending, in "%USERPROFILE%"->"\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default".

I had the problem that Edge wanted to use a Printer that doesnt exist anymore and so it stuck on the Point where it wants to install some Driver for a Printer that isn't connected, regardless what the Printers in Windows or somewhere else is configured or installed!

So i searched for all Entrys of this Printer in the "Preferences" file and changed them to my current Standard Printer.

And it worked, the Print Dialog opened.

Hope this helps someone and some Edge Developer will look into this Problem.

    Greetings

Microsoft is clearly not responding to this problem; they obviously do not care. We switched to Firefox and Chrome to solve this problem with Edge.

    Hi Angela

I'm Wilfredo S an Independent Advisor

To choose a default printer, select the Start button and then Settings . Go to Devices > Printers & scanners > select a printer > Manage. Then select Set as default. If you have Let Windows manage my default printer selected, you'll need to deselect it before you can choose a default printer on your own.

In Windows 10, your default can be the printer you last used. To turn on this mode, open Start and select Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners. Select the checkbox beside Let Windows manage my default printer.

Did anyone ever solve this issue. I'm ready to give up and switch to Firefox after wasting hours trying to resolve this problem (after recent update).
