Managing tabs, address bar, and search settings in Edge on Windows 11

Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
For several months, my open tabs in Edge have occasionally disappeared the next time I open it. To anticipate a likely response, yes, I have it set to return to the tabs from my previous session.
When they disappear, I have to open all new tabs. Then days, weeks, or even a month later, suddenly the new ones I have opened are gone and the ones that disappeared earlier are back. It's very frustrating when, like today, I had numerous tabs open from a research project that have now all disappeared and will have to be recreated--and then probably will reappear someday long after my project is completed, wiping out others open at that time.
I wonder if it has something to do with sync across devices, which I have turned on but has never worked. I use Edge on my phone, tablet, and laptop, and they never sync. But if it's suddenly syncing with one of my other devices, that doesn't explain why the tabs that disappeared come back later.
I'm baffled. And I'm not excited about any suggestion to reset all my Edge settings, after I've spent a considerable amount of time setting them up the way I want them.

It happened again earlier this week but I had another update last night. It happens only occasionally, so it will take a while to know for sure.
And BTW, all of my open tabs have disappeared twice today when I opened Edge.
Sorry for the late reply. Recently, we have received feedback from other users about the same problem. We have submitted the BUG and are waiting for the relevant team to collect the feedback so as to investigate the problem.

Thank you for your help, but some problems. The link you posted is dead. I searched and found another page with the same title (Sign in and create multiple profiles in Microsoft Edge - Microsoft Support), but it says to select Profile, and I don't see anything with that name, either under the 3-dot menu or when I click on my picture. I can click on my picture, hover over Other Profiles, and then choose Add Profile, so that's what I did. But I didn't go any farther, because it appears that my profile needs to be created for a different email account. I have only one MS account, so how would I do that? (I do have a separate email connected with it, and I think I can log into my MS account with either my Outlook email or the other one I've connected--but it would still be the same Microsoft account.)
In short, I tried to do what you suggested, but the steps to do it were completely different, and I'm not sure how to handle the separate email apparently required to create a new profile.
Help?
I'm on Windows 11, Version 10.0.22621 Build 22621.
Hi Kathy2343,
Welcome to Microsoft Community.
The problem has nothing to do with cross-device synchronization, which is the principle that websites opened on different devices with the same Microsoft account will be synchronized to other devices (equivalent to sharing websites you visit) but it won't make them lose.
I would like to ask you to try to create a new user profile in the Edge browser and see if there are some tabs open under the new profile such as 10 or 20 to see if this problem occurs.
For details about how to create an Edge user configuration, see:
Sign in and create multiple profiles in Microsoft Edge
* Steps 4 and 5 on this page guide you to enable synchronization. Please choose not to synchronize for the time being.
In addition, I would like to confirm with you the version information of Edge you are currently using, and I can also help you test whether this problem exists.
Your patience and cooperation are highly appreciated. If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Best Regards,
